Sam Stewart stretches to third as she narrowly beats a tag and is called safe. Stewart helped the Raiderettes defeat Nodaway Valley Monday night with a couple of runs, including a solo home-run in the fifth.
The Mount Ayr Raiderettes saw a busy week as they took down Stanton, Southwest Valley, and Nodaway Valley, while falling to Martensdale-St. Mary’s.
Mt. Ayr 15, Stanton 1
Early last week, Mount Ayr traveled to Stanton for a rematch of last year’s contest in which the ViQueens defeated the Raiderettes 5-2 in Mount Ayr.
Stanton had a little bit of a different field that the Raiderettes weren’t used to, using a shared field with baseball, the pitchers mound sat right behind the softball circle and the ViQueens were without a snow-fence to make the outfield shorter, so both teams played on a very deep field.
The Raiderettes made the most of the battle, however, with a commanding start, throwing up four runs in the first and leading Stanton 9-0 after three innings. The game came to an end in the fourth after the Raiderettes put up six runs in the top of the fourth. Stanton was able to muster a lone run to make the final 15-1.
Alexa Anderson led Mount Ayr in hits with three while scoring two runs, two RBI one triple and one stolen base, boasting a .750 batting average.
Halsie Barnes was also a force at the plate with four at-bats, three hits, two runs and three singles along with two RBI for a .750 batting average.
Addy Reynolds pitched four innings for the Raiderettes that included three strikeouts and no earned runs.
The defense behind Reynolds saw 12 put-outs and two errors.
Stanton only saw one hit in the contest and the lone run was scored on the base hit by Brooklyn Adams.
The ViQueens pitched Ali Silbius for three innings in which she allowed 10 hits and nine runs, five of which were earned. Silbius also walked three.
Brooklyn Adams came in for relief in the fourth and allowed six hits and six runs, two of which were earned.
As a defense, Stanton committed five errors and saw 12 putouts.
“We like to score early, it’s something we pride ourselves on,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “We like to put runs on the board early, especially hard. We did a great job in the middle innings and I thought our small ball worked really well tonight.”

Mt. Ayr 8, SWV 1
Last Thursday, the Raiderettes hosted the Southwest Valley Timberwolves for their second meeting of the season. The Raiderettes added another win to the books with an 8-1 win over their opponents from Corning.
The game was close through three innings with Mount Ayr leading 2-1 as the Raiderette bats looked to time pitcher Ryanne Mullen.
Mount Ayr would find that rhythm in the fourth, putting up four runs in the bottom of the fourth before finishing out the contest with two runs in the six to close the game 8-1.
Leading Mount Ayr in hits was Channler Henle who was perfect at the plate with three at-bats, three hits, one run, one RBI, a double and a single.
Pitcher Addy Reynolds saw all seven innings in the circle and collected eight strikeouts and no earned runs, while allowing two hits and walking two.
The defense behind Reynolds saw 21 put outs and one error, with Halsie Barnes leading the way with nine put outs on nine total chances.
The Southwest Valley bats saw three hits and one run with a single and a double with one RBI.
In the circle, Mullen saw eight runs on eight hits, all earned with one walk.
The fielders behind her had 22 total chances with 15 put outs and one error.
“The value of a seven inning game is huge to us and hats off to them, they played really well tonight. That’s a better Southwest Valley team than we saw earlier and congrats to them, they are getting better,” said coach Ruggles. “For us playing a seven inning game is huge to get them the feeling what a seven inning game feels like. Channler Henle had a great night tonight, she hit the ball extremely well. We did really nice things tonight that many people won’t realize. We had so many sacrifice hits to the right that got a lot of runners in.”

MstM 5, Mount Ayr 1
The second loss of the short season for Mount Ayr came at the hands of powerhouse Martensdale-St. Mary’s.
The Blue Devil bats were making contact early, but it was a Mount Ayr error that led to the first run in the bottom of the first for Martensdale.
A three run third inning for the Blue Devils saw Mount Ayr trailing 4-0.
The Raiderette bats couldn’t keep the ball low as fly outs were the name of the game for the Mount Ayr hitters.
A lone home run came in the top of the fifth off the bat of Rachel Sobotka, but the momentum wasn’t enough to rally the Raiderettes for a comeback.
Sobotka led the Raiderettes with their only two hits, one RBI and one home-run.
The Raiderettes only saw four strikeouts in the contest.
Reynolds pitched seven innings and saw three strikeouts with an ERA of five.
Behind Reynolds the Raiderettes had 18 put outs on 32 total chances and two errors.
The Martensdale bats saw five hits that resulted in four singles, one double, four RBI and five runs.
Campbell German was in the circle for Martensdale. She walked two batters and struckout four while allowing one run on three hits.
Behind German, the defense saw 21 put outs on 32 total chances and two errors.
“Right now we are trying to find our voice,” said coach Ruggles. “Every time we are out there we’re just not talking, we aren’t communicating enough. Some of that comes from game experience and some of that comes from leaders stepping up and that’s what I challenged our girls tonight is someone’s got to step-up and start doing that.”

Mt. Ayr 11, NV 1
The Raiderettes found their rhythm once again in Greenfield, facing the Nodaway Valley Wolverines.
Mount Ayr jumped to an early starting, scoring five runs in the first inning to set the tone.
The Raiderettes took a 10 run lead by the end of the third to take complete control of the game. The final run of the night came off the bat of Sam Stewart who hit a solo home run over the right field fence.
Nodaway Valley would go on to score in the bottom of the fifth after an error on the Raiderettes saw Wolverine Corinne Bond across.
The Raiderettes improve to 6-2 on the season.
