The Raider basketball team saw limited action on Monday night at a jamboree hosted by Central Decatur.
The Raiders drew Ankeny Christian Academy and after one half of play the Eagles bested the Raiders, 27-25.
Getting the start for the Raiders was Jaixen Frost, Payton Weehler, Cody Larson, Erik Trujillo and Riley Maudlin.
“Offensively, we struggled making shots which is a product of the early part of the season,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “We will have to improve drastically at this and will really need to get that improved quickly.”
The Raiders were led by Jaixen Frost with nine points, followed by Payton Weehler and Eric Trujillo with seven each.
The rest of the squad mustrered up two points collectively.
Defensively, the Raiders played in a press, utilizing speed and aggressiveness to throw the Eagles off-balance.
“Overall I was very happy with our new style of defense,” said Ruggles. “Putting in a press is very difficult so to be able to really clamp down and get the stops we need will take time. I was very happy with how disruptive it was and intrigued to see how we can adapt it.”
The Raiders first game of the season will come November 30 against Clarke in Osceola at 6 p.m.
Only two spectators are allowed per athlete. If you are not able to attend the game you can follow @ChanseHall on Twitter for timely updates on the contest, or for any information on livestream services.
