JOAN HOPE KONOPASEK

Joan Hope Konopasek, daughter of Ray and Alberta May (Hutchcroft) Grannaman, was born October 15, 1935 at Leon, IA. Joan was raised by her mother and step-father, Walter Hughes, whom she loved dearly.
On October 28, 1951, Joan was united in marriage to Doyle Vern Konopasek in Lamoni, IA. To this marriage was born four children: Linda, Glen, Jeannie and Betty.
Joan and Doyle began their life together on a farm near Eagleville, MO. In addition to being a wife and mother, Joan was a waitress at the Eagleville Truckstop. In 1968, they moved to Kellerton, IA. They owned and operated the Kellerton Locker for the next 30 years. Joan loved being with her family. She loved to crochet, and Joan made many keepsake items for both family and friends. Joan enjoyed coloring and creating artwork. Joan loved to go fishing and camping in Storm Lake, IA. Doyle passed away on October 13, 2012. In 2013, Joan moved to Red Oak, IA. She was in a serious car accident and became a resident of the Red Oak Rehab and Nursing Center.
Joan passed away December 12, 2020. She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Grannaman; mother amd step-father, May and Walter Hughes; husband, Doyle; son, Glen; sister, Mary Hughes; son-in-law, David Dunn; and two grandchildren Misty and Dalton Lee.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three daughters, Linda Dunn of Red Oak, IA, Jeannie (Marvin) Hultquist of Langley, OK, Betty (Leroy Lee) Gage of Ottawa, KS; 16 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren with one on the way; sister, Raylene (Frank) Messina of Venice, FL; three nieces, three nephews, and one great nephew; and a host of cousins and friends.
A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided.
Service were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, IA.
Led by Pastor Bill Armstrong.
Special song was “If There’s A Phone in Heaven” by Michael Manuel.
Casketbearers were David J. Dunn, Bronson Konopasek, Dan Rehmeyer, Sheldon Ballentine, William Bailey and Mike Stark.
Honorary casketbearers were Tyler Gage, Burt Hutchcroft, Mike Hultquist, Rodney Hultquist, Rich Hensley, Russell Smith and Shane Smith.
