Mt. Ayr 58, SWV 28
The Raiderettes had a short week with only one game being played.
Mount Ayr hosted Southwest Valley Tuesday, January 12.
The Raiderettes were able to improve to 10-2 on the season after a commanding, 58-28 win over the Timberwolves.
“Our girls played well tonight,” said coach Thad Streit. “We weren’t as efficient on our press as we have been, but did play hard. Southwest Valley did a good job versus our press and missed some good opportunities.”
The Raiderettes were led by Rachel Sobotka, Maddie Stewart and Alexa Anderson.
Sobotka and Stewart each had 12 points, while Anderson had 11.
Sobotka stayed busy throughout the night with 13 rebounds, 11 of which were on defense, and two assists.

Mt. Ayr 45, Murray 23
The Raiderettes traveled to Murray on Monday, January 18 for a non-conference matchup with the Mustangs.
The contest was the Raiderettes first in almost a week and a slow start for the Mount Ayr girls showed a little rust.
Murray went on a small run to lead the Raiderettes 6-0 early and the Mustang defense had kept the Raiderettes from even taking a shot from the field.
By the end of the first, the Raiderettes were down 8-7.
Communication was a little more clear in the second as the Raiderettes started to score, outpacing the Mustangs 12-5 in the second to lead at halftime 19-13.
It was a story of two halves Monday night as the Raiderettes looked more like themselves in the third and fourth quarters but still struggled to make layups.
The Raiderettes scored 14 in the third and 12 in the fourth to defeat Murray 45-23.
“We were hoping to get a nice cushion early so we could work on some things but we didn’t get that,” said coach Streit. “We were sluggish and we were just mentally a step behind. I was proud of them in the second half. They did things they needed to.”
Mount Ayr’s Alexa Anderson was also out for this contest after suffering a wrist injury in last Tuesday night’s contest against Southwest Valley.
“She is playing her best basketball in her four years,” said coach Streit. “She does the little things. She rebounds, buckets here and there, nice posts and it’s kind of a blow for us.”
Tuesday night, January 19, the Raiderettes traveled to Lenox for a big Pride of Iowa contest.
The game had not been played at press time and will appear in next week’s Record-News.
Full stats for the contest against Murray were not available at press time.
