Only two games last week were on the schedule for the Raiderettes before traveling to Murray on Monday, June 7.
First up for the Raiderettes was Lenox, who had bested them six days earlier in Lenox, 4-1.
Mount Ayr then traveled to Afton to face the East Union Eagles.

Coach Bret Ruggles hoped to get the bats going against the Lenox Tigers early and that’s exactly what happened.
Lenox scored one early, but in the second inning, the Raiderettes were composed and hit Tiger pitcher TJ Stoaks often, scoring seven.
The Raiderettes played a clean game throughout the rest of the night, scoring two in the fourth and two in the sixth to put the game away.
The Raiderettes recorded 11 runs off 13 hits and 30 at-bats. Addy Reynolds and Zoey Larsen each had a homerun which accounted for six RBI combined.
Reynolds was in the circle for the Raiderettes where she pitched six innings, allowing one run, four hits and two walks while striking out three batters.
The fielding was much more improved than we saw in the Winterset tournament, with no errors recorded on the night and 18 putouts on 23 total chances.
“We made one little change,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “When we heard a couple girls might not go out this offseason, we talked about moving Anderson to shortstop and you hate to do that because she is an All-State third baseman.”
The move proved a good one, with Zoey Larsen covering third and making good plays.
“MaKayla Jones knocked down a play that would have been missed this weekend,” said coach Ruggles. “I am so proud of that girl.”

The Raiderettes visit to East Union was quick last Thursday night, ending the contest 12-0 after four innings.
Mount Ayr recorded 12 runs off 12 hits in 25 at-bats.
With eight singles, one double, a triple and two home-runs that results in 10 RBI, the Raiderette offense stayed hot.
Pitching duties went to Addy Reynolds who allowed five hits, one walk and struck out six.
The Raiderette fielders had three errors, but saw 12 putouts on 16 total chances.
“It’s our response, and our ability to respond and play great softball again,” said coach Ruggles. “We have hit the ball really hard since last weekend. We started early tonight.”

MA 15, Murray 4
Monday night, the Raiderettes traveled to Murray for a contest against the Mustangs.
Before the game, however, the Mount Ayr seniors met with Murray players at home-plate to give them a memorial stone in memory of the classmates they lost in a tragic accident in recent weeks.
Along with the gift, the Raiderettes wore purple and yellow ribbons on their cleats in support of Murray.
“When you have good programs and good teams, you have great seniors. They came up with this idea tonight,” said coach Ruggles. “They wanted to do this, they wanted to do the ribbons in the shoes. We feel this a little bit. We have dealt with death and tough situations in our school as well and understand what they are going through. I am very proud of our girls for stepping up and wanting to do this.”
The game got started with Mount Ayr putting up three runs and going up 6-0 in the top of the second, off an Addy Reynolds two-run homer and an RBI from Halsie Barnes.
Murray started to hit Mount Ayr pitcher Zoey Larsen as they found three runs of their own in the bottom of the second.
The Raiderettes didn’t stop their, answering Murray back with five runs in the third and then four in the fifth, only allowing one run off three hits in the next three innings for Murray.
The Raiderettes ended the contest after five innings and improved to 5-4 on the season to get above .500 after a rocky start to the season.
“We are getting our confidence back. We took some big hits on the chin early on,” said coach Ruggles. “This is the second time we have been in double digit wins. Very happy with our offensive output and our defense tonight. Zoey threw well, the last time she was on the mound was Winterset, so for her to come back and get a very good win is great.”
