Jaixen Frost
Mt. Ayr 84, Seymour 37
It was a great start to the new year for Mount Ayr’s Jaixen Frost in the win over Seymour Monday night.
The Raiders defeated the Warriors 84-37, with Frost scoring 41 of those points, beating his previous record of 38, for most points in a game.
The Raiders came out hot to start the game, with Cody Larson winning the tip and Ryce Reynolds throwing one up to start off the Mount Ayr scoring machine.
Mount Ayr outscored Seymour 26-11 in the first, but a lull in the second saw them even at 11 each and heading into halftime, the Raiders led 37-22, while Frost sat at 14 points.
In the second-half, Frost made adjustments and went for the school record, roping off 27 points to reach the record 41 points.
Frost sat at 38 points late in the fourth quarter. With the bench players subbed in, coach Bret Ruggles left Frost out for one more attempt at the record. Frost shot from three-point territory and set the new record.
“Going through break I was feeling pretty good coming back and I felt good shooting,” said Frost. “My three ball kept landing so I just kept shooting it.”
Frost mentioned his teammates as a big part of his success.
“We are like family. We rely on eachother,” said Frost. “We have really good chemistry.”
Coach Ruggles was happy for Frost after his performance on the night.
“Two things jump off the chart when we talk about Jaixen Frost,” said coach Ruggles. “Everyone looks at his shot, his moves he made a reverse layup not a lot of people make and it’s his coachability and understanding of the game. For a kid that has a lot of talent, sometimes that can be an issue and with him, it’s not. With him you can challenge him and he responds. His mom was a college basketball player, his dad understands the game very well, and so he understands this game really well.”
The team would go on to improve to 7-1 on the season with the victory.
In the win, the Raiders were led by Frost with 41 points and Tyler Martin who had 16.
The Raiders recorded 16 steals, led by Reynolds with five.
The Raiders picked up 25 rebounds, 18 of which came from the defensive side of things, which was led by Frost.
