Lenox 61, Mt. Ayr 46
Mount Ayr hosted the Lenox Tigers last Tuesday night and in the close contest ended in a Raiderette loss, giving the Tigers the sweep over the Raiderettes this season.
Lenox took off in the first quarter, outscoring Mount Ayr 15-10 and at halftime the Raiderettes trailed the Tigers 25-21.
The Raiderettes made one bucket that wasn’t from the freethrow line in the first quarter.
It looked like the Raiderettes would make a comeback, however, in the third quarter, the Lenox Tigers began to hit three pointers from all over the floor and jumped out ahead of the Raiderettes 44-28.
The Raiderettes were able to slow the Tigers down in the fourth, but ultimately fell 61-46.
The Raiderettes drew fouls plenty of times throughout the game, with the Tigers committing 23 fouls to the Raiderettes 13, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Tigers.
Lenox hit seven-of-22 three point shots against the Raiderettes with Cadence Douglas and Jynessa Cox each hitting two and freshman Sadie Cox led the team in points with 20.
The Tigers went to the freethrow line eight times and were six-of-eight from the line.
Mount Ayr made two of 12 three point attempts and went to the line 37 times, making 22, led by Tegan Streit with 10-of-16 freethrows made. Streit scored 12 on the night, before exiting with an injury late in the contest.
Leading the team in points, however, was Maddie Stewart with 17. Stewart also led the team in steals with eight.
Streit and Halsie Barnes led the team in rebounds with nine and seven, respectively.
The Raiderettes turned the ball over 11 times, compared to the Tigers 20.
“I thought we played out hearts out. We played great defense, we were in position 98 percent of the time and they just threw stuff up and it just went in the hole,” said coach Thad Streit. “They had a night. I think we have gotten better. We weren’t scoring like we are now. We lost five seniors last year and just replacing them bodies and that chemistry, I think we are progressing like we should.”
