NV 51, Mt. Ayr 41
The Raiders hosted the Nodaway Valley Wovlerines last week in a game that saw the Wovlerines get revenge on their January 4 loss at Wells Fargo, defeating the Mount Ayr Raiders 51-41.
The Raiders came out quick and by halftime held a 21-16 lead over the Wolverines.
The second half was another story, however, as the Raiders fell into their third quarter slump and allowed the Wolverines to jump ahead 32-29.
The Wolverines kept the pressure on and by the end of the contest had outscored Mount Ayr 51-41, giving the Nodaway Valley boys their seventh win in eight games.
The Raiders saw Jaixen Frost lead the team with 20 points, while Riley Stark added eight and Braydon Pierson added seven.
The Wolverines had three scorers in double digits to spread out the wealth.
The Raiders were 19-of-45 on the night and were 0-4 from the three point line, while only seeing the freethrow line six times where they added three points.
“Nodaway is much better than they were before. They didn’t have Phillipie then and they did now,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “I thought early we got up and put them away last time we played and tonight they stayed the course and their coach is doing a great job. We didn’t make shots tonight and when you take a break like we did we’ve reset the system and we are back to a December backsetball team. We have to fight through it.”

Mt. Ayr 60, Bedford 52
The Raiders found themselves back in the win column last Friday with a win over the Bedford Bulldogs, by an eight point margin.
Bedford played a tough game Friday night and kept things close throughout the entire game, testing the conditioning of the Mount Ayr team.
After the first eight minutes of play, the game was tied at eight and heading into halftime, after Mount Ayr had lost the lead, the Raiders regained their position atop the scoreboard and led the Bulldogs by one.
The Raiders usual third quarter slump didn’t show up that night and the Raiders outscored the Bulldogs 13-10 to give a little more breathing room heading into the final eight minutes of regulation.
Jaixen Frost was 25 points away from breaking the All-Time scoring record, held by his cousin, Dawson Frost.
Jaixen Frost had a little bit of trouble getting points on the board, however, he was looking at getting the win and not the record, as he spread the ball around and allowing open receivers to score.
By the end of the night, Frost tied the record with a 24 point outing to put him at 1,144 points in a career.
Frost, a junior, will more than likely put the record away for many years.
The Raiders also saw Braydon Pierson score 13 and Tyler Martin with 10 on the night to round out double digit scoring for the Raiders.
“It was a huge win tonight. “A” for the confidence and “B” for how we did it,” said coach Ruggles. “Jaixen understood they were bringing up and he dumped it underneath, we passed the ball into the slots and we can get those layups. It was a huge win for us. Any time you play Frank you’re going to be scouted well, coached well and defended well.”

Mt. Ayr 66, I-35 55
On Monday, February 7, the Raiders hosted the Roadrunners of Interstate-35.
It was back-and-forth very early, but the Raiders found a rhythm that put them on top by 10 before the Roadrunners went on their own run to make it a closer contest.
After one quarter, Mount Ayr led by four and at halftime, that lead had only grown to five.
The Raiders, known for a third quarter slump, has recently found the cure for the slump in the win over Bedford.
Despite the Roadrunners outscoring Mount Ayr 15-14 in the third, coach Ruggles considered it a wash as they continued to hold the lead throughout the game.
Mount Ayr put the game away in the fourth quarter, scoring 18 points while allowing 11 to defeat the Roadrunners 66-55.
In the win, Jaixen Frost scored 20 points which moved him ahead of his cousin Dawson Frost on the All-Time career points leader board, however, Jerry Waugh, who played for Mount Ayr from 1959-1963 has been confirmed to hold the actual record of 1,205 points in a career still sits atop the record board.
Frost is 42 points away from breaking that 59 year old record.
“I’m kind of moving one game at a time and if I deserve the record I’m going to get it,” said Frost. “I’m going to keep going out there and playing my game and playing ball with my friends. If I get this record it will mean a lot and I will be able to look back on it for many years.”
Helping Frost put the Roadrunners away was Braydon Pierson with 12 points and Cody Larson with 11.
“It was one of those games we finally looked like before break,” said coach Ruggles. “We shot well tonight. In the last two weeks, Cody Larson has developed a really good vision. We ran a nice double set and he dropped it into Ryce and that’s an advantage. Tyler Martin has been aggressive and with Cody that creates a problem when you also have Braydon and Jaixen.”
