It was a tough night for the Raiderettes on Tuesday, February 8 when the Blue Devils came to town.
The Raiderettes led after the first quarter, with Martensdale struggling to stop the Raiderette shooters with Mount Ayr leading 16-13 after one.
The Blue Devil bench must have worked it out however during the timeout between quarters as the Blue Devils only allowed four in the second, while scoring 11 to lead the Raiderettes at halftime.
The Blue Devils held their lead throughout the remainder of the contest and took the 55-41 win.
The fouls were even with both teams committing 16, while the Raiders shot 17 times from the line, making eight, while the Blue Devils shot 12 times from the line, making eight.
Turnovers were fairly even as well, with Martensdale turning it over 13 times, while Mount Ayr gave it up 15.
The Raiderettes struggled under the bucket with rebounds, snagging only 19 on the night, while Martensdale recorded 35.
The Raiderette scorers were led by Maddie Stewart with 11 and Jaxy Knight, also with 11.
“It was good to see man-to-man and pressure like that,” said coach Thad Streit. “We get to breathe a little bit Thursday night and hopefully we can take advantage of that and score.”

Sidney 45,Mt. Ayr 30
The Raiderettes finished out the season in Sidney after a 45-30 loss in the regional opener.
The Cowgirls were led by junior Avery Dowling who gave the Raiderettes trouble with five threes made on the night.
The Cowgirls were good from three-point distance seven times on the night and were led by Dowling and Chay Ward who had 15 and 14 points, respectively.
The Raiderettes struggled at the bucket, shooting 11-of-44 from inside the paint and five-of-14 from the line.
Mount Ayr snagged 23 rebounds on the night, while the Cowgirls were able to grab 44.
“We knew the Dowling girl was a heck of a shooter,” said coach Streit. “They hit seven threes on us and that kind of changed things. We shot 24 percent and we couldn’t get a bucket to go. They are quicker than I thought, pretty disciplined and did a lot of nice things.”
The Raiderettes will graduate three seniors from the team in Maddie Stewart, Halsie Barnes and Payten Lambert.
“Halsie is probably the best leader, one of the top best leaders we’ve had in our program,” said coach Streit. “Maddie is a good ball player and a good leader. We get along really well and we give each other crap quite a bit and bounces off each other, and Payten she’s quiet and a good kid and we really appreciate having her. Wins and losses don’t always mean a whole lot if you can remember those seniors, that’s important.”
Maddie Stewart reflected on her basketball career with the Raiderettes after hugs with family and friends.
“It was tough knowing with the last minute that I’m never going to put on a Raiderette jersey ever again,” said Stewart. “It was a fun ride all the way through and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
Stewart expressed that one of her favorite memories as a Raiderette was playing with her older sister Sam Stewart.
Halsie Barnes reflected on her memories and what being a Raiderette meant to her.
“Being a Raiderette is huge and a big honor,” said Barnes. “There’s a lot of tradition in any sport at our school and to the girls coming up, keep up the tradition and keep it classy. After the last four years it’s hard to hang up the jersey and say goodbye but all good things come to an end. I’ve loved every second of it.”
Payten Lambert also reflected on her years as a Raiderette as she moves on from basketball.
“Ever since I was little I’ve been looking forward to being in high school sports and a lot of that has to do with my dad being a coach,” said Lambert. “It’s like a big family and I love all the girls so much. I’m proud to wear this jersey and I’m sad that it’s my last game but I am excited to come back and watch the other girls play.”
