Raiderette basketball is entering its 16th season under Thad Streit who has coached the team to a 250-92 record in the previous 15 years.
This year, coach Streit will be joined by first year assistant coach, but familiar face, Jensen Stewart.
Stewart is a graduate of Mount Ayr and played in two state tournaments for Streit and the Raiderettes.
Last season, the Raiders struggled with a fifth place Pride of Iowa Conference finish, but was able to finish the year above .500 with an 11-10 record, overall.
The Raiderettes lost Maddie Stewart, Halsie Barnes and Payten Lambert to graduation but return a core nucleus of seniors in Makenna Jones, Tabby Henle, Tegan Streit, Jill Kniep and Linsie Barnes.
Along with the seniors, juniors Janna Irving and Karly Elwood with sophomores Jaxy Knight and Breya Nickle return to the team.
“We have a lot of experience back with five seniors that played a lot last year,” said coach Streit. “We will be playing with a shot clock this year and that will be an adjustment for most teams. We are continuing to experiment with lineups and what our identity will be this year.”
The Raiderettes will kick-off the season on November 22, against Lamoni, in Mount Ayr.
