East Union 34
The Mount Ayr Raiders traveled to Afton last Friday night to wrap up the week against the East Union Eagles.
Improving to 14-2, the Raiders defeated the 2-13 Eagles, 71-34.
Mount Ayr pushed ahead early, 20-6 before taking a big halftime lead of 42-15.
A Jaixen Frost led victory saw the senior score 19 points, along with fellow senior Braydon Pierson with 15.
Sophomore Tyler Martin scored 14 in the win, while also recording eight rebounds and five assists, along with two steals.
The two leaders had their night end early as the Raiders were able to substitute in valuable minutes for the bench.
The second half saw the Raiders outscore the Eagles 29-19.
The bench scored 23 points for the Raiders that included three from Drew Ehlen, four from Jackson Ruggles and two from Louden Main.

The Mount Ayr Raiders hosted the Stanton Vikings on Monday night, in which the Raiders improved to 15-2 on the year after a decisive 74-40 win.
Stanton, a team that averaged in the 60’s was held to 40 points against the Raider defense.
The Raider offense was on fire throughout the night as well, as Jaixen Frost put Mount Ayr ahead 11-0 and would end the contest with a team-high 27.
By the end of the first quarter, the Raiders had a commanding 24-9 lead and by halftime, the Raiders led 48-22.
With a big Pride of Iowa matchup on Tuesday against the Nodaway Valley Wolverines, the Raiders began to rest their starters and the bench saw increased minutes.
The Raiders outscored the Vikings 26-18 to end the contest ahead, 74-40.
“They did a neat thing tonight where they shifted their defense every four or five possessions which was great for our guys,” said coach Bret Ruggles. “If we can pull the ball back and get in the right sets it will help us against Nodaway and Bedford. I was happy with our efforts tonight.”
In the win, Riley Stark amassed 17-points, while Braydon Pierson recorded 12.
Frost led the team in rebounds with 12 and assists with seven, while Stark had four steals on the night.

The Raiders have the opportunity to tie for the Pride of Iowa Conference title with a win over Nodaway Valley that was played on Tuesday night and a victory over Bedford on Friday night. The Raiders must win both in order to achieve the top POI honor.
