Towns across Ringgold County are preparing to elect a mayor and city council members, as well as school board representatives from each school district.
Ellston and Redding will be voting to fill 5 seats on each city council, along with a mayor.
Benton, Beaconsfield, Diagonal, Kellerton, Maloy, Mount Ayr, and Tingley will all be electing a mayor, and 3 seats on their respective City Council.
In Mount Ayr, the terms of Brad Elliott, Chandra Poore and Ken Robertson are expiring.
Both Robertson and Elliott have served eight years, and are not seeking re-election.
The candidate filing period began Monday, August 28, 2023 and will end at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023. City Candidates should file nomination papers with the County Auditor, while School Board Candidates file nomination papers with the school.
Diagonal Community School District will be voting to elect three school board members. Pam Grace is running for another 4-year term, and Becky Stamps and JP Whittington both have expiring terms.
Three persons, representing district 1, district 3, and an at large director are being sought in the Mount Ayr Community School District.
PJ West is running for her fourth 4-year term for Mount Ayr Community School District 3. Craig Winemiller also will seek reelection. Brandi Shay said she will retire from the board.
“I truly enjoy being a part of the process, West states, “I get to work with dedicated administration, terrific staff, my creative board counterparts, the students and our communities, on what decision are truly best for our students.”
Mark Budach has announced he is running for District 1, and turned papers in to the district office. Budach states, “I retired from teaching after 33 years, and I feel my knowledge of education would be an asset to the school board if I were to be elected.”
James Uhlenkamp has announced he is running for the at-large seat, rather than a specific district seat. Uhlenkamp states, “This will be my third term, if I’m so blessed as to win the seat.”
Anyone seeking election must file an affidavit of candidacy and nomination petitions or non-party political convention certificate. The nomination petitions must have at least the minimum number of signatures for that office.
Candidates running for at-large seats may collect signatures from anywhere in the city.
Petition signers must be eligible electors of the city.
