Raiderettes fall to Moravia in only game of the week

There was only one game on the schedule last week for the Mount Ayr Raiderettes. It was Monday, June 24 at home against Moravia.
There, the Mohawks would take a 13-3 win in five innings. The loss dropped Raiderette’s record to 7-11 while Moravia improved to 13-18.
Mount Ayr came into the game having snapped a five-game losing streak with a win at Nodaway Valley.
The Raiderettes were to play their last regular season game on Monday, July 1 when they hosted Central Decatur. The Raiderettes will be back in action at home on July 8 when they play Lenox in a Class 1A Regional first-round game. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Moravia scored first in the game with two runs in the top of the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Three more runs came in for the Mohawks in the top of the second inning to extend their lead to 5-0. Moravia would take a 7-0 lead with two more runs in the fourth inning. Mount Ayr would score their three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Moravia lead to 7-3.

Moravia put the game away in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs to get a 10-run margin. The Radierettes could not push runs home in the bottom of the fifth and the game ended by the 10-run mercy rule.
Keely Wasteney took the loss after starting and working three innings. She gave up five runs on eight hits. She struck out three and walked one while facing 19 batters.
Kensie Barnes also pitched two innings in relief. She struck out two, walked two, and gave up eight runs on three hits.
Mount Ayr had five hits in the game by five different players. Breya Nickle was 1-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Other hits were from Tatum Friedrich, MaKel Jones, and Kensie Barnes. Dannie Stewart and Friedrich each reached base via walks.
Moravia’s Jaime Self was the winning pitcher after working five innings and facing 20 batters.
