Alan Schultz
A man has been charged with murder after allegedly killing a 19-year-old man at a bar in Clearfield, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said in a press release.
37-year-old Alan Schultz of Bedford is charged with Murder in the First Degree in the shooting death of Colby Nelson of Lenox.
Taylor County reports a deputy responded to Bootleggers Bar and Grill just before 3:40 a.m. on the Fourth of July to investigate reports of a shooting, according to a criminal complaint.
The complaint states a deputy arrived to find Nelson dead on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
Based on an interview with Schultz, officials believe he and Nelson had a disagreement at the bar earlier in the night, and later argued outside the bar.
Schultz allegedly drove home to get a handgun from his residence before coming back to the bar, where he confronted Nelson in the parking lot.
Schultz shot Nelson once in the face and waited by his vehicle for deputies to arrive, a criminal complaint states.
Several eyewitnesses identified Schultz as the shooter. Schultz also allegedly identified himself as the shooter to Iowa DCI and other first responders.
Deputies took Schultz into custody without incident.
This is an ongoing investigation. The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner will perform a forensic autopsy on Nelson’s body.
