Fall festivals, Halloween fun and harvest gatherings are now in season.
Ellston Harvest Dinner
The Ellston United Methodist Church is hosting their annual drive through harvest dinner on Saturday, October 5 from 5-7 p.m.
Freewill donations are being accepted for dinner, which includes ham, turkey, and ham balls, cheesy potatoes, green beans, dinner roll and a homemade dessert.
To pick up dinner, enter the northwest driveway of Ellston United Methodist Church and continue to the south door. Once there, someone will confirm how many dinners you want. Continuing on to the east side door, dinners will be brought to your vehicle.
Beggar’s Bash
The annual Beggar’s Bash hosted by the Support Our Students (SOS) committee will be held at a new location this year.
Kids in costume are invited to enjoy a trunk and treat event at the Mount Ayr High School parking lot on Sunday, October 6 from 5-6:30 p.m.
There is a $1 admission fee per person, which helps raise funds for field trips, classroom items, and other activities that benefit Mount Ayr Community School students.
The new temporary location is being used while construction of the pool continues at Judge Lewis Park.
Individuals and organizations that would like to set up a booth for the trunk or treat event can contact Chelsea Armstrong at 515-290-4008.
Poe Hollow Park Fall Festival
Ringgold County Conservation Board is hosting a fall festival Saturday, October 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Poe Hollow Park.
Families are invited to enjoy pumpkin painting, leaf crafts, games and other activities with Conservation Director, Travis Scott.
Reno and Woody’s food truck will also be on site providing lunch options.
Grand River Fall Festival
Friends and neighbors are invited to gather at the Grand River Community Center on Saturday, October 19 for the community’s annual fall festival.
Dinner will be served starting at 5 p.m. with a free-will offering being accepted and door prizes will be announced throughout the evening. This fall dinner is known for serving “the best home cooked vittles this side of the Mississippi.”
After dinner, a live auction will be held starting at 7 p.m. with proceeds benefiting the community building.
Tingley Halloween
The annual Tingley Halloween celebration and parade will continue this year.
To participate in a pumpkin decorating contest, stop in to the Wagon Wheel Cafe or see Nancy Jarred to pick up a pumpkin.
All decorated pumpkins should be dropped off by October 21 at the Tingley Post Office.
Halloween activities officially get underway the evening of Saturday, October 26.
The Tingley Fire Department will be serving a meal from 5-8 p.m. as a fundraiser for new playground amenities.
In addition, a scavenger hunt will be held along with trick or treating around the tennis court from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
The evening will conclude with a Halloween parade full of fun entries competing for best dressed or decorated status.
