The Ringgold County supervisors have canvassed the votes from the November 5 General Election.
While the bulk of the results remained unchanged, the supervisors had to break one tie and act upon a technicality in another race.
In Grant Township, voters were asked to fill two trustee positions. Because no one had filed for either of those positions, write-in votes would determine the winners. Brian Bickel filled one seat with 12 write-in votes, but the other seat came down to a tie between Mark Rychnovsky and Nathan Nickel. Nickel was awarded the seat by blind draw.
Voters were also asked to fill three commissioner positions on the Soil and Water Conservation District board. Two candidates – Rodney Bastow and George Hunt – appeared on the ballot, but the third commissioner seat would be filled by write-in. Suzie Winemiller received the plurality of the write-ins with 37, but a technicality in the commission by-laws prohibits all three commissioners from residing in the same township. Bastow, Hunt, and Winemiller all reside in Poe Township. Therefore, Winemiller is ineligible to fill the third commissioner position.
At their meeting Monday, November 18, the supervisors awarded the commissioner seat to next highest vote-getter who does not live in Poe Township. That seat now goes to Tammy Rychnovsky, who had received six write-in votes.
