Raiderette JV starts season 5-1
The Mount Ayr junior varsity girl’s basketball team has begun their season with five wins in their first six ball games.
The Raiderettes have victories over Lamoni, Clarke, Nodaway Valley, and Bedford twice. The only loss has come against Clarinda on the road recently.
The junior varsity Raiderettes play once more before Christmas break, this Thursday at home at 4:30 against SW Valley.
Mount Ayr began the season with a 54-15 win at home against Lamoni. Mount Ayr took control of the game in the third quarter. Leading 10-3 after the first quarter and 25-9 at halftime, Mount Ayr used a 21-2 run in the third to put the game away.
Emma Reynolds led Mount Ayr with 21 points, 6 steals, and 5 rebounds. Tatum Friedrich added 14 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. MaKel Jones also chipped in 6 points. Other scores were Brittlyn Nickle and Allison Anderson each with 4 points, Kate Newton with 3, and Keely Wasteney with 2 points.
Mount Ayr scored 54 points for the second straight game in a 54-21 win at home over Clarke on December 2. The win put the Raiderettes record at 2-0. Emma Reynolds led Mount Ayr with 23 points and 7 steals. Tatum Friedrich added a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. MaKel Jones scored 8 points while Allison Anderson and Keely Wasteney each had 4 points. Abbie Case chipped in two points.
The Raiderettes moved to 3-0 with a 41-12 win at Nodaway Valley on December 3. The game saw only one-half of the play due to low numbers for NV. Mount Ayr led 25-5 after the first quarter and never was challenged.
Mount Ayr beat Bedford 44-29 on December 7 in the first of two meetings in two weeks. The Raiderettes led 12-8 after the first quarter and used a 20-7 run in the second quarter to take a 32-15 halftime lead. Each team scored 14 points in the second half. The win gave the Raiderettes a 4-0 record.
Mount Ayr fell for the first time on December 9 at Clarinda in a non-conference game, 59-36. The loss dropped the Raiderette’s record to 4-1. Three nights later, Mount Ayr got back on the winning track with a 27-10 win against Bedford.
The game was only one-half and Mount Ayr led 12-7 after the first quarter and used a 15-3 third-quarter run to take a 27-10 game.
