Ruggles leads Raiders at NW Missouri State meet

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Mount Ayr senior Jackson Ruggles collected a pair of top-10 finishes at last Saturday’s Northwest Missouri State Indoor track meet. Ruggles and the Raiders were competing with 18 other schools at the meet in Maryville, Mo. in one of the last indoor meets before the outdoor season begins. Mount Ayr tied for 17th with Exira-EHK at the meet. Blue Springs and Blue Springs North, both larger Missouri schools, took the top two spots with 84 and 59 team points respectively. Atlantic placed third with 48 points. Lenox placed seventh, Bedford took 14th and Nodaway Valley placed 15th among area schools.
Ruggles led the Raiders’ individual finishes with a fifth place finish in the 400-meter dash in a time of 53.06. That time now is the best time in the event in the Pride of Iowa Conference. Drayden Thompson had a pair of near top-10 finishes. Thompson was 11th in the 200-meter dash in 24.03 and was 14th in the 60-meter dash in 7.43. Manny Hyde added a 19th place finish in the 200-meter dash and a 20th place finish in the 60-meter hurdles.
Ruggles was a member of the Raiders 7th place 4×400-meter relay team where he was the anchor leg. The team of Hyde, Thompson, Bryson Martin, and Ruggles were seventh in a time of 3:41.45. The next best finish for Mount Ayr was from their distance medley relay team of Weston Adams, Martin, Michael Adkisson and Braylon Greenwell which placed 12th in a time of 12:52.68.
The Raiders boy’s track team will have a similar schedule for upcoming meets as the Mount Ayr girls team. The Raiders will be at the Earlham Early Bird meet on March 31 and on April 2, Mount Ayr will run at the Griswold Relays.
