Raiders put bow on 2026 track season with season best times

DES MOINES, Iowa — The old athletic adage is that you want to be playing or competing at your best in the postseason. That rang true late last week for the Mount Ayr boy’s track and field team as they competed in the Class 1A State meet last Thursday through Saturday.
Although the Raiders did not score a team point in the Class 1A standings, over half of the events that Mount Ayr took to state captured season best times. Mount Ayr had state events in the 200-meter dash, the sprint medley, the 4×200-meter relay, the 4×400-meter relay and the shuttle hurdle relay.
The Riverside Bulldogs won the Class 1A state title with 51 points. Van Buren was second with 43 points and Iowa Valley third with 42.5 points. Lenox and East Union were the top Pride of Iowa Conference team finishers. Lenox was 24th with 11 points and East Union 25th with 10 points.
In individual events for the Raiders, Drayden Thompson placed 18th in the 200-meter dash in 22.96. Landon Grell from Lawton-Bronson won the event in a time of 21.99. Thompson’s time was his new season’s best time.
The top relay finish for Mount Ayr was from their shuttle hurdle relay team, placing 11th with the team of Jackson Ruggles, Michael Adkisson, Isac Dugan and Calvin Main in a time of 1:02.50. That time was the season’s best time. The Raiders sprint medley relay team of Bryson Martin, Tate Dugan, Main and Thompson ran to a 17th place finish and season best time of 1:36.66.
Mount Ayr’s 4×200-meter relay team placed 19th with the team of Thompson, Main and Ruggles in a time of 1:34.10. The Raiders 4×400-meter relay team placed 24th with the team of Ruggles, Adkisson, Isac Dugan and Main in a time of 3:39.47.
The Raiders will graduate the following seniors from this year’s team: Michael Adkisson, Tate Dugan, Braylon Greenwell, Ivan Hatfield, Jackson Ruggles, Rowan Sackett and Nathan Stewart.
