Obituary – Ernest Hollinger

Ernest (George) Clayton Hollinger, September 4, 1933 – August 10, 2026 (92 Years Old).
George was preceded in death by his loving wife Marilyn Hollinger; daughter Lisa Hollinger; siblings Harold (Jock) Hollinger, Robert (Bob) Hollinger, Myrtle (Myrt) Snyder, Virginia (Ginny) Zimmerman; and son-in-law George Pulliam.
George is survived by daughters Vicki (Dave) Contreras, Gloria Pulliam, Chris (Jerry) Lorentzen; 6 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren.
George was born in Pleasanton, Iowa (the third child of Miles & Hazel Hollinger).
He attended Diagonal High School, where he met his future wife, Marilyn Sobotka.
George and Marilyn were married on December 28, 1952. They moved to Omaha, Nebraska for job opportunities. George worked at Ralston Purina for 40 plus years as a Mechanical Engineer. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 and served two years of active duty in Korea.
Growing up in rural Iowa, George developed a love for nature. He just wanted to be out in the “Timber”.
He loved fishing, hunting and exploring the “Great Outdoors”. He was blessed during his life by several large animal hunts including a bear, many deer and elk, a boar, and several buffalo.
His athletic abilities didn’t stop with playing basketball in high school. He went on to become a very talented bowler, scoring a perfect 300 game a time or two.
George and Marilyn were married 68 years at the time of her death in 2021. They enjoyed traveling on bus tours together. They visited every state in the U.S. except Alaska. They kept in touch with high school classmates by attending the annual Alumni Banquet and monthly card parties.
God and family were the most important to them both. Family gatherings included many Summer Camping Trips, Birthdays, and Holiday Celebrations. George volunteered for many years keeping the Church Grounds looking just as beautiful as his own yard. He was known as the “Official Greeter” for the early Sunday Church Service. He enjoyed welcoming anyone and everyone coming to Worship the Lord.
George was welcomed into Heaven on August 10th by his Heavenly Father as well as many family members and friends.
