DONALD I GROUT
Donald I. Grout, 96, of Mount Ayr died March 3, 2021. Funeral service was at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Community Building in Tingley. Masks and social distancing will be required. Pastor Jodi Rushing will officiate. Burial was at the Cemetery in Tingley. No visitation was held. Memorials may be given in Memory of Donald I. Grout to be determined at a later date. Donald Irving Grout son of Ray Irving and Grace (Richards) Grout was born December 23, 1924 in Mount Ayr, IA. Donald graduated from Tingley High School in 1943. Donald served his country as part of the United States Army as a paratrooper during World War II.
Donald was united in marriage to Helen Louise (Stone) on August 21, 1949 in Tingley. They settled in Tingley area where he farmed until 1981. In the summer he was a seed inspector for Pioneer and Garst for many years. Later Donald was the Park Host for ten years. In 1981 they began to winter in Texas in both Rio Grande Valley and Harlingen over the next thirty years. Donald was a member of the Tingley and Creston First United Methodist Church and a member of the American Legion in Tingley from 1946-1982.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen Grout of Mount Ayr, IA; three daughters, Patty Stark of Mount Ayr, Mary (husband, Harold) Adams of Ankeny and Billie Jo (husband, Curt) Greene of Ellston; two sons, Glenn (wife, Deb) Grout of Lenox and Ralph (wife, Cindy) Grout of Ankeny; five brothers, Dale (wife, Jean) Grout of Riverside, CA, Pearl Grout of Mount Ayr, Marvin Grout of Cedar Rapids, Kenneth Grout of Cedar Rapids, Ronald (wife, Nancy) Grout of Des Moines, Robert Grout of Berwick; a sister, Ruth (husband, Jon) Hoy of Urbandale, sister-in-law, Alice Leeper and 17 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews. Donald was proceeded in death by his parents, two sons, Ivan and Lynn Grout, a sister, Doris Grout, two brothers, Harold and Charles Grout, sisters-in-law, Jan, Joann and LaDonna Grout, and brothers-in-laws, Jim, John and Harold Stone, Gene Leeper, and son-in-law, Rodney Stark.
