CRESTON, Iowa – The Mount Ayr Raiderettes ran at a pair of meets last week as they had contests in Creston and at AC/GC. The meet in Creston kicked off the two-meet week on Tuesday, September 23. Mount Ayr ran against six of the nine Pride of Iowa Conference schools at the meet in a mini preview of the conference meet next month.
Martensdale-St. Marys won the meet with a team score of 33 points led by meet champion Karson Oberender who won in a time of 19:01. Teammate Maclaine German was second in a time of 19:16. Earlham was second in the team race, only six points back with 39 points. Clarinda placed third with 81 points.
Mount Ayr’s Addison Doolittle was the first Raiderette to finish the race in 13th place with a time of 22:21. Ryley Greenwell was next in 26th place in 24:34. Also competing for Mount Ayr were Ava England who placed 34th and Irais Trujillo who placed 55th.
Mount Ayr ran at the AC/GC Charger Invitational last Thursday in Guthrie Center. At the meet were many teams that the Raiderettes don’t see on a regular basis. The meet was won by Tri-Center with a team score of 34. Panorama was next in second place with 60 points and AHSTW was third with 69 points. Mount Ayr and Lenox were the only two Pride of Iowa Conference teams at the meet.
There were 45 runners in the girl’s race with Panorama’s Lily Myers winning in a time of 20:55 with Cadence Petersen from AC/GC in the runner-up position in 22:58.
Mount Ayr got a top-10 finish from Doolittle with a ninth-place time of 23:49. Greenwell added a top-25 place finisher, placing 24th in 25:55.
Mount Ayr will have only one meet this week and that is on Tuesday, September 30 at Osceola. The Raiderettes will run against Baxter, Chariton, Clarke, Creston, East Union, Interstate-35, Lenox, Martensdale-St. Marys, Moravia, Mormon Trail, SE Warren, Southwest Valley and Van Meter (results were not available as of press time).
The following week, Mount Ayr will run at the Centerville Big Red Invitational on Tuesday, October 7 at the Lakeview Elementary sports complex.
