DUDLEY R. GLEASON

DUDLEY R. GLEASON WAS A NATIVE OF GREEN COUNTY, VERMONT, WHERE HE WAS BORN NOVEMBER 17, 1833. HE WAS 65 YEARS OF AGE. HE LEAVES A WIFE, FOUR DAUGHERS AND THREE SONS.  HE CAME TO ILLINOIS WITH HIS PARENTS IN 1838, SETTLING ON A FARM IN KANKAKEE COUNTY, WHERE HE GREW TO MANHOOD, AND WHERE HE LIVED 41 YEARS.  ON JANUARY 25, 1857, HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO MISS MARGARET LEGG OF LEGSVILLE.  IN 1879 MR. GLEASON AND FAMILY CAME TO IOWA AND SETTLED ON A FARM NEAR BENTON, IN RICE TOWNSHIP, WHERE HE DIED IN PEACE AT 4:30 P.M., TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1901.  MR. GLEASON HAD THE BEST CARE DURING HIS PROTRACTED ILLNESS.  DR. BEMENT OF MOUNT AYR AND DR. CARTER OF DES MOINES, USED EVERY KNOWN REMEDY TO PROLONG HIS LIFE AND ALLEVIATE HIS SUFFERINGS, BUT THE DEATH ANGEL COULD SPARE HIM NO LONGER.  DR. W. L. GLEASON, HIS SON, WAS AT HIS BEDSIDE NEARLY ALL THE TIME AND HIS DEVOTED WIFE AND CHILDREN NEVER LEFT HIM. HIS SUFFERING WAS INTENSE, BUT HIS CONFIDENCE IN HIS SAVIOR UNMOVED AND HE LONGED TO GO HOME AND BE WITH CHRIST.  HE LEAVES TO MOURN HIS DEATH HIS WIDOW AND EIGHT CHILDREN, FIVE SONS AND THREE DAUGHTERS.  HIS BROTHER FROM KANKAKEE, IL. WAS AT HIS BEDSIDE. AN AGED SISTER IN MINNESOTA COULD NOT COME. MR. GLEASON WAS AN ACTIVE BUSINESS MAN AND IT IS NO SMALL CONSOLATION TO KNOW THAT HIS FAMILY ARE LEFT IN GOOD CIRCUMSTANCES.  THE FUNERAL WAS HELD AT THE METHODIST CHURCH IN BENTON AND INTERMENT WAS IN THE BENTON CEMETERY.
