MARSHALL HICKMAN

MARSHALL HICKMAN WAS BORN IN WEST VIRGINIA, JULY 17, 1826 AND DIED AT THE HOME OF HIS SON-IN-LAW, C.R. KEATING, IN MOUNT AYR ON FRIDAY, APRIL 5, 1901.  IN 1852 HE WAS MARRIED TO MISS NANCY ROGERS AND TO THEM WERE BORN SIX CHILDREN OF WHOM FOUR ARE LIVING-J.W. HICKMAN OF CLEARFIELD; MRS. MCALISTER OF LINCOLN, NE; C.M. HICKMAN OF OMANA, NE; AND MRS. C.R. KEATING OF MOUNT AYR.  MR. AND MRS. HICKMAN MOVED FROM WEST VIRGINIA TO ILLINOIS IN 1853 WHERE THEY RESIDED UNTIL 1870.  THEY THEN MOVED TO RINGGOLD COUNTY, RESIDING IN OR NEAR MOUNT AYR UNTIL 1896, WHEN THEY MOVED TO CLEARFIELD.  MRS. HICKMAN DIED IN 1898 AND SINCE THAT TIME MR. HICKMAN RESIDED WITH A DAUGHTER IN RED OAK UNTIL HER DEATH IN 1899, AND LATER HAS MADE HIS HOME WITH HIS DAUGHTER, MRS. KEATING.  HIS DEATH WAS DUE TO INFIRMITIES OF OLD AGE AND CAME PEACEFULLY LIKE DROPPING INTO PLEASANT SLUMBERS.  THE DECEASED WAS CONVERTED WHILE A YOUNG MAN AND UNITED WITH THE BAPTIST CHURCH.  AFTER HE CAME TO THE WEST HE UNITED WITH THE METHODIST CHURCH AND REMAINED A FAITHFUL MEMBER UNTIL HIS DEATH.  ZEALOUS FOR HIS MASTER, HE LABORED EARNESTLY IN THE WORK OF SAVING SOULS.  HIS DEATH WILL BE MOURNED BY MANY RELATIVES AND FRIENDS.  THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE CONDUCTED SATURDAY AFTERNOON FROM THE RESIDENCE OF MR. KEATING BY REV. P.V.D. VEDDER.  THE INTERMENT WAS MADE IN ROSE HILL CEMETERY.
