HANNAH HUGHES

HANNAH HUGHES, DAUGHTER OF THOMAS AND JANE HUGHES, WAS BORN FEBRUARY 23, 1854, IN DES MOINES COUNTY IOWA.  WITH HER PARENTS SHE REMOVED TO THEIR FARM IN LOTTS CREEK TOWNSHIP, RINGGOLD COUNTY, IOWA  IN 1855.  THERE SHE HAS LIVED EVER SINCE, AND THERE SHE DIED OCTOBER 17, 1901 AGED 47 YEARS, 7 MONTHS AND 24 DAYS.  SHE UNITED WITH THE EVANGELICAL CHURCH IN 1889.  WHEN THAT CHURCH DIVIDED HER MEMBERSHIP LAPSED.  HER LOVE AND SYMPATHY WAS WITH THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, BUT DISTANCE FROM SUCH CHURCH PREVENTED ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP.  A QUIET HOME KEEPING, HOME LOVING WOMAN, SHE HELPED TO MAKE A HAPPY HOME FOR HER FATHER AND MOTHER AND BROTHERS AND SISTERS.  SHE WAS CHRIST’S DISCIPLE AND HE CALLED HER HOME.  FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD FROM HER LATE HOME, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19, CONDUCTED BY REV.  AMBROSE S. WIGHT OF MOUNT AYR, ASSISTED BY REV. S.C. WADDING OF THE EVANGELICAL CHURCH OF RINGGOLD CITY AND REV E. BULL OF GRANT CITY.  THE LATTER PREACHED THE SERMON FOLLOWED BY INTERMENT IN THE WATERSON CEMETERY.
