JOHN LAHS

JOHN LAHS WAS BORN IN NORDERSTOBER, GERMANY, OCTOBER 3, 1842 AND DIED AT HIS HOME IN REDDING, IOWA, AUGUST 4, 1918. HE CAME TO AMERICA IN THE YEAR OF 1862 AND WENT DIRECTLY TO CLINTON, IOWA, WHERE HE REMAINED FOR NINE YEARS. HE WAS MARRIED AT CLINTON TO WEIBKA CHRISTENE THAMS, TO WHICH UNION WERE BORN EIGHT CHILDREN, TWO OF WHOM PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH. THEY WERE, CHARLEY AGE THREE MONTHS AND ANNA, WIFE OF L.T. WRIGHT, AGE TWENTY-THREE YEARS AT THE TIME OF DEATH. THE CHILDREN LIVING ARE; HANS OF HARDIN, CO.; WILLIE OF DEXTER, MO.; JOHN OF DELPHOS; HENRY OF REDDING; MRS. MAGGIE RUSH OF INDIANOLA, IOWA AND MRS. JULIA WRIGHT OF ROGERS, AR. ALL WERE PRESENT AT THE FUNERAL EXCEPT HANS OF COLORADO. IN ADDITION TO HIS IMMEDIATE FAMILY, MR. LAHS LEAVES THREE SISTERS AND ONE BROTHER TO MOURN HIS DEATH. ALL LIVE IN NEBRASKA BUT ON ACCOUNT OF AGE AND SICKNESS NONE WERE ABLE TO BE PRESENT. IN 1871 MR. AND MRS. LAHS CAME TO RINGGOLD COUNTY AND BOUGHT LAND NEAR DELPHOS, WHERE THEY HAVE MADE THEIR HOME SINCE AND HAVE BEEN RESPECTED AND PROGRESSIVE CITIZENS. MR. LAHS WAS BAPTIZED AND CONFIRMED IN THE LUTHERAN CHURCH AT THE AGE OF TWELVE YEARS IN GERMANY.

THE FUNERAL SERVICE WAS CONDUCTED FROM THE M.E. CHURCH AT REDDING ON AUGUST 6, 1918, AT 11 O’CLOCK, CONDUCTED BY REV. ORR CAMPBELL. INTERMENT WAS MADE IN THE ROSE HILL CEMETERY IN MOUNT  AYR.
