SARAH SLACK KINSELL

SARAH SLACK KINSELL, WAS BORN AT ITHICA, NEW YORK, AUGUST 29, 1831. SHE DEPARTED THIS LIFE AUGUST 17, 1918, AT 7:15 O’CLOCK P.M., AT HER HOME IN MOUNT AYR, IOWA AND WHERE SHE HAD LIVED FOR 58 YEARS, AGED 86 YEARS, ELEVEN MONTHS AND EIGHTEEN DAYS.

SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO D.C. KINSELL AT CHESTERVILLE, OHIO, ON AUGUST 26, 1849. SHE WITH HER HUSBAND CAME TO JASPER COUNTY, IOWA IN NOVEMBER 1854 AND FROM THERE MOVED TO MOUNT AYR, IOWA IN JUNE 1860. SHE UNITED WITH THE METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH IN THE YEAR OF 1870, UNDER THE MINISTRY OF W. T. SMITH, SOON AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE FIRST M.E. CHURCH IN MOUNT AYR, THE FIRST CHURCH ERECTED IN RINGGOLD COUNTY, IN WHICH SHE HELD MEMBERSHIP UNTIL HER DEATH. HER HUSBAND PRECEDED HER TO THE GREAT BEYOND, DECEMBER 19, 1886. SHE WAS THE MOTHER OF NINE CHILDREN, SIX DAUGHTERS AND THREE SONS, TO-WIT: Z.T. KINSELL OF LONG BEACH, CA.; MRS. GEORGE S. ALLYN OF MOUNT AYR, IOWA; MRS. A. A. HUGGINS, WHO DIED AT LOS ANGELES, CA., JANUARY 25, 1897; MRS. A. O. INGRAM OF ISMAY, MONTANA; MRS. H.C. KINSELL OF STANLEY, NEW MEXICO; E. BARRETT KINSELL OF KANSAS CITY, MO.; MRS. ROBERT A. GRAY OF CHARITON, IOWA; J.L. KINSELL OF MOUNT AYR AND MRS. C. C. CAMPBELL OF RAWLINS, WY. HER FOUR DAUGHTERS AND ONE SON WERE AT HER BEDSIDE THROUGHOUT HER SICKNESS RENDERING EVERY ASSISTANCE AND CARE THAT LOVING HEARTS AND HANDS COULD BESTOW.

SHE WAS THE GRANDMOTHER OF FIFTEEN GRANDCHILDREN AND SEVENTEEN GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. SHE ALWAYS HAD A WARM AFFECTION FOR ALL CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE AND THEY WERE HER FRIENDS. SHE LIVED AN UNOSTENTAIOUS LIFE, A TRUE, LOVING, CHRISTIAN MOTHER AND LOYAL CITIZEN TO HER COUNTRY IN THESE TRYING, TESTING  TIMES.

THE FUNERAL WAS HELD AT THE HOME, CONDUCTED BY HER PASTOR, THE REV. FRANK BEAN. HER CHILDREN WERE ALL PRESENT EXCEPT Z.T. KINSELL AND MRS. H.C. KINSELL. THUS ENDS A LONG, USEFUL, HELPFUL LIFE.
