Gauld R. Turpen

After an illness of several weeks duration, Gauld R. Turpen died of pneumonia, Friday, October 18, 1918, at his home in south Mount Ayr. Mr. Turpen was born at Lamoni, Iowa, July 7, 1878 and was therefore forty years, three months and eleven days old at the time of his death.  He is survived by his wife and three children: Eugene, Steve and Ruth.  On account of the prevalence of influenza and the quarantine regulations, no public funeral service was held, a short service being conducted at the home Sunday morning by Elder H.L. Barto of Lamoni. The body was taken to Pleasanton and laid to rest in the Pleasanton Cemetery.

Mr. Turpen had been a resident of Mount Ayr about eight years and was held in high esteem by all his acquaintances. He was a brick mason and cement worker. Always conscientious in his work and honorable in his dealings he commanded the respect of his fellow man. In the passing of Mr. Turpen the community loses one of its best citizens and the sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved family.
