Mary Elizabeth Wright Gillett
Mary Elizabeth Wright was born in the state of Ohio April 21, 1836, and departed this life at her home near Ellston, Iowa, November 27, 1918, aged 82 years, seven months and six days. When a small girl she moved to Noble County Indiana, with her parents where she spent her school days. In January, 1854, she was united in marriage to Andrew J. Gillett. The same year they moved to Iowa, locating at Iowa City for the winter at which place their oldest son, A.S. Gillett, was born. In the spring of 1855 this couple moved to Ringgold County, where they pre-empted land and established their home which is now one of the oldest in Ringgold County. To this union were born thirteen children, one dying in infancy the other twelve growing to womanhood and manhood. At an early age she united with the Christian Church, being a consistent and faithful member to the last, often expressing her faith and was ever ready and waiting her summons.
Her husband and four children have preceded her to the beyond. There are left to mourn her departure A.S. Gillett, Athol, S.D.; Alice L. Buell, Davis City, IA.; A.J. Gillett, Olivet, S.D.; Dame P. Ruth, Malvern, IA.; W.R. Gillett, Baker, Montana; Ida E. Waller, Ellston, IA.; C.S. Gillett, Cody, NE.; O.W. Gillett, Ellston, IA.; Mae E. Gifford, Des Moines. These with a large number of grandchildren and a large circle of friends and neighbors mourn her departure. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Ellston Cemetery to await the resurrection morn.
