Ira B. Groves was born August 8, 1896 in Benton, Iowa and lived there until his death, December 12, 1918, aged twenty-two years, four months and four days. He took the influenza and it developed into pneumonia.
When war was declared he, with several other young men, heard their country’s call and went to Des Moines to enlist. He did not pass the military examination and returned home. He registered June 5, 1818 and had been called for service November 14, but did not go as the armistice was signed November 11 and they were not needed.
He leaves to mourn his loss his mother and father, two sisters, Mae and Maud and two brothers, Carl E., who is in camp near Bordeaux, France, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were held at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Groves, conducted by Rev. J.D. Dille, interment being made in the Benton Cemetery.
