JAMES JASPER SEEVERS

JAMES JASPER SEEVERS, SON OF DANIEL AND MARY C. SEEVERS, WAS BORN IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, INDIANA, SEPTEMBER 21, 1850.  HE DIED AT COLORADO SPRINGS, CO., MARCH 21, 1919, AT THE AGE OF SIXTY-EIGHT YEARS, AND SEVEN MONTHS.

HE COME TO IOWA IN THE FALL OF 1881. AT MOUNT AYR, IOWA, ON DECEMBER 14, 1882, HE WAS MARRIED TO MISS LYDIA LAYTON.  SEVEN CHILDREN CAME TO THEM.  OF THESE ONE DIED IN INFANCY AND THE REMAINING SIX SURVIVE THEIR FATHER.  WILBUR SEEVERS LIVES AT HAMMOND, IND; EVERETT AT LARNARD, KS.; ANNA, GLADYS AND MRS. LELA WOODSIDE RESIDE AT COLORADO SPRINGS AND JOSIE IS A TEACHER AT EDDYVILLE, NE. THE FOLLOWING BROTHERS AND SISTERS ARE LIVING: HENRY I. SEEVERS, MARY E. RUSK, J.H. SEEVERS, ANNA A.  FARIS AND A HALF BROTHER F. A. HARRIS.  THERE ARE THREE GRANDCHILDREN.

IN 1901, MR. AND MRS. SEEVERS LEFT MOUNT AYR FOR IOLA, KS.  HERE THEY MADE THEIR HOME UNTIL THE FALL OF 1918, WHEN THEY WENT TO COLORADO SPRINGS TO LIVE.  ALTHOUGH AFFLICTED WITH BRIGHT’S DISEASE FOR A LONG TIME, MR. SEEVERS HAD BEEN ABLE TO CARRY ON HIS WORK AS A FARMER AND LATER A MECHANIC WITHOUT SERIOUS DIFFICULTY, UNTIL THE INFLUENZA PLAGUE CAME UPON HIM SUDDENLY AND DEATH CAME IN A FEW DAYS.

THE DECEASED WAS A LONG-TIME MEMBER OF THE ODD FELLOWS AND ALSO A MEMBER OF THE YEOMAN.  HE HAD  A DEEPLY RELIGIOUS NATURE AND HAD BEEN OF LATE YEARS INFORMALLY  AFFILIATED WITH THE INTERNATIONAL BIBLE STUDENTS ASSOCIATION, UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF PASTOR RUSSEL.

THE SYMPATHY OF THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY GOES OUT TO THE BEREAVED FAMILY AND RELATIVES IN THIS SUDDEN AND CRUSHING SORROW.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD AT THE HOME OF J. H. SEEVERS IN MOUNT AYR CONDUCTED BY FRANK BEAN OF THE METHODIST CHURCH. THE REMAINS WERE LAID TO REST IN ROSE HILL CEMETERY IN MOUNT AYR,
