DANIEL NELSON KELSEY

DANIEL NELSON KELSEY WAS THE SECOND CHILD OF MR. AND MRS. WM. KELSEY.  HE WAS BORN IN LUCAS COUNTY, IOWA ON THE 8TH OF FEBRUARY, 1867 AND DIED AT HIS HOME IN MOUNT AYR AT 2 A.M. ON THE MORNING OF THE SIXTH OF DECEMBER, 1920. AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH HE WAS 53 YEARS, 9 MONTHS AND 28 DAYS OLD.  AS A YOUNG MAN HE MOVED TO VESTA, NE., WHERE HE RESIDED FOR FIVE YEARS.  LATER HE MOVED TO FREEMONT COUNTY, IOWA, AND FROM THERE TO HARLAN, IOWA. TEN YEARS AGO HE MOVED TO MOUNT AYR AND HAS SINCE MADE HIS HOME IN THIS TOWN WHERE HE CONDUCTED THE MOUNT AYR MARBLE AND GRANITE WORKS.

ON THE 29TH OF JANUARY 1892 HE WAS MARRIED TO LILLIAN D. EATON AND LIVED HAPPILY IN THIS UNION TILL HIS DEATH. TEN CHILDREN CAME TO GLADDEN THE HOME, THREE OF WHOM DIED IN INFANCY. SEVEN SURVIVE THE FATHER, SIX GIRLS AND ONE BOY.

HE BECAME A MEMBER OF THE METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH IN YOUNG MANHOOD AND AFFILIATED WITH THE LOCAL CONGREGATION ON COMING TO MOUNT AYR. HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE LOCAL ODD FELLOW LODGE, THE MEMBERS TAKING THEIR PART AT HIS BURIAL.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS SORROWING WIFE, MRS. D. N. KELSEY, AND SEVEN CHILDREN, BLANCHE RUNDEL AND NELLIE FINLEY OF MOUNT AYR; JOSEPHINE SKINNER OF GRAVITY, IL.; ILA PRICE OF WIMBLEDON, N.D.; NETTIE BROWN OF OTTUMWA; CHARLOTTE AND LESTER WHO LIVE AT HOME WITH THE MOTHER AS WELL AS ELEVEN GRANDCHILDREN. THE SYMPATHY OF THE COMMUNITY IS EXTENDED TO THE SURVIVING RELATIVES. HE WAS A LOVING HUSBAND, A KIND FATHER, RESPECTED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM.

MR. KELSEY DIED AS A RESULT OF INJURIES RECEIVED IN AN ACCIDENT SUSTAINED BY HIM SOME THREE WEEKS AGO. HE WAS CAUGHT IN THE FLYWHEEL OF THE ENGINE USED AT HIS STONE CUTTING SHOP AND BADLY BRUISED. COMPLICATION SET IN WHICH EVENTUALLY RESULTED IN HIS DEATH.

THE FUNERAL WAS CONDUCTED AT THE HOME BY S. P. WILLIAMSON, PASTOR OF THE CHURCH OF CHRIST, TUESDAY AFTERNOON. THE REMAINS WERE INTERRED IN THE ROSE HILL CEMETERY.
