Arvilla Jane Emery Thompson

Arvilla Jane Emery was born in Clinton County, IN., February 22, 1860 and departed this life at home of her daughter near Tingley, IA., on August 11, 1924, at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 20 days.  She grew to womanhood in Clinton County and in 1861 was united in marriage to Wallace E. Thompson.  They resided in Indiana until 1895, when they moved to Union County, IA. In 1900 they moved to Ringgold Coutny, residing in Tingley until October 1920 when they moved to Brainard, MN., living there until May of this year, when ill health compelled her to come to her daughter’s home.  She had been in failing health for the past seven years, but grew worse the last year, becoming almost helpless the past week.  She was always a patient sufferer, bearing her troubles bravely until the end which came peacefully at 2:20 Monday morning.  She was converted and united with the Christian Church in Indiana about 39 years ago.  After coming to Iowa she united with the Methodist Church at Tingley, of which she was a member at the time of her death.  She was the mother of twelve children, four having preceded her in death, and the other eight with her husband are left to survive her.  They are: Mirl, Elmer, and Lon Thompson and Zora Holmes and Letty  Hedy of Wood Lake, MN., Ora Thompson and Alice White of Creston, IA and Mrs. A. Reynolds of near Tingley.  There are eighteen grandchildren, besides a host of relatives and friends who are left to mourn her departure.  The husband, three sons and two daughters were unable to attend the funeral.
