James Glidden Liles
James Glidden Liles, son of George and Hannah Liles, was born in Logan County, OH, July 18, 1855, and died at Ellston, IA, November 4, 1924, aged 69 years, three months and sixteen days. Soon after his birth, his parents moved to Davis County, IA where they made their home until 1865, when they came to Ringgold County, where he grew to manhood and spent practically all his life. Everybody knew “Gid”. He was a jolly, friendly and kindly man; always ready to help anyone who needed assistance. No task too hard or too exacting for his patience, “service for others” seemed to be his chief occupation and he tried always to do unto others as he would have them do unto him. His father and mother and eight brothers and sisters have preceded him in death and today there are left to miss him, three sisters and two brothers, Lemuel of Grand River; Julia Arnold of Merino, CO; John of Kingville, MO; Mrs. Ruth Dickson and Mrs. Emma Arnold of this place: nephews, nieces and a host of friends. Funeral services were held from the home of his sister, Mrs. Emma Arnold, Thursday forenoon, conducted by Rev. Alta M. Nichols and interment was made at Pumptown Cemetery.
