Mary E. Wells Aldridge

Mary E. Wells was born July 24,  1833 in Gracen County, KY, and departed this life November 15, 1924, at the home of her grandson, Bert Curry, near Kellerton, IA.  She was united in marriage in November 1852 to David N. Aldridge, and to this union were born seven children, one daughter dying in infancy.  The husband and father preceded her to the great beyond on January 31, 1898, as did also one son who passed away August 21, 1920.  She was united with the Baptist Church in 1857 at Chequest, Davis County, IA and  later about thirty-five years ago, reunited with the Christian Church at Kellerton, IA, where her membership has been ever since.  Her faith in her Savior was always strong, and in her last illness, which was of six weeks duration, that surely tried her patience, she was calm although her suffering was intense.  She was so afraid of wearing those out who cared for her, but the end came at last, after she prayed constantly for the Lord to take her out of her suffering.  She leaves to mourn her departure five children, Mrs. Matilda McDonald of Seattle, WA; Mrs. Martha Scott of Eugene, OR; Sherman Aldridge, Vici, OK; Mrs. Annie McClurg of Mount Ayr, IA; and Mrs. Abby Curry of Kellerton, IA besides twenty-eight grandchildren and hosts of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and lots of other relatives and many friends.  She was a friend to all that needed help and always ready for any help she could give to anyone in  need.  Her funeral services were conducted at the Christian Church at Kellerton by the Pastor Rev. J.C. Harris on Monday, November 17 and at two p.m. she was laid to rest in Maple Row Cemetery.
