Chris Wehrle (Sept. 14, 1870 – Feb. 20, 1929)

Chris Wehrle, son of Elias and Barbara Wehrle, was born September 14, 1870, near Kellerton, Iowa and departed this life at his home February 20, 1929, at the age of 58 years, five months and six days. His entire life was spent in Athens Township and he numbered his friends by his acquaintances. He was married December 25, 1901, to Lillie E. Laird, and to this union were born four children, Mrs. Mildred Sickels of Athelston, Frank of Kellerton and Cleora and Wilma at home. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior under the preaching of W. J. Campbell in 1920 and has since lived a faithful, consistent christian life. He was a loving husband and father, a good neighbor. He was of a cheerful disposition and always thoughtful of others. He had been in declining health for some time but was thought to be as well as usual and his sudden death comes as a distinct shock to the entire community. He leaves to mourn his death his heart-broken wife and children, three grandchildren, one brother, Joseph Wehrle of Mount Ayr and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Branscomb of Van Wert and Mrs. Rose Heggs of Kellerton, besides many other relatives and a host of friends. We have lost our darling father, He has bid us all adieu; He has gone to live in Heaven, And his form is lost to view. Oh, that dear one, how we loved him, Oh, how hard to give him up; But an angel came down for him, And removed him from our flock. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Leasanville Church, conducted by Rev. W. J. Campbell of Davis City, and interment made in the Merritt Cemetery.
