Miss Belle Johnston, daughter of J.W. and Margaret Ann Johnston, was born in Lotts Creek township, Ringgold County, Iowa, August 26, 1862. She died at Davenport, OK., Sunday, March 17, at seven o’clock p.m., being at the time of her death 66 years, six months and 21 days old. She came from a sturdy pioneer family, being one of the twelve brothers and sisters to grow to manhood and womanhood. Of this family she is the sixth to answer the Master’s call. One sister Mrs. Washburn, proceded her last year. The brothers and sisters who mourn her death are Mrs. L.J. Hacker, Mrs C.W Hollingsworth, E.J. Johnston, R. L. Johnston and J.C. Johnston, also several nieces and nephews.
She was a firm believer in our Savior and united with the M.E. Church at Fry Chapel during the pastorate of Rev. A.L. Bates and was a faithful attendant at services while health permitted. The last words she spoke on this earth was repeating the Lord’s Prayer.
About four years ago she was stricken with diabetes and was a long and constant suffer until death claimed her. The remains arrived in Mount Ayr Tuesday, March 19th, accompanied by her sister Mrs. Hollingsworth and Miss S.A. Reddin, of Davenport, who has been a friend of years’ standing and has nursed her with untiring care during her illness. We wish to mention the wonderful kindness and assistance of the Royal Neighbors in Davenport who conducted the services at their chapel in Davenport on the 18th, just before the body was started on the journey to Mount Ayr.
