Rachel Ann Burke (1857-1929)
Mrs. Rachel Burke, widow of the late James H. Burke and for many years a resident of Mount Ayr until twenty-one years ago, died at her home in Long Beach, CA., April 22, 1929. The following announcement of her death is copied from the Long Beach Press-Telegram of April 23:
Mrs. Rachel Ann Burke, 72, for twenty-one years a resident of Long Beach, died yesterday at her home, 1561 Elm Avenue. The deceased, mother of Everett Burke, manager of the Walkover Shoe Store of this city, was a native of Indiana. She was a member of the First Methodist Church.
Surviving daughters, Mrs. Annie E. Hawdle of Long Beach, Mrs. Aleta Anderson of South Pasadena, Mrs. Mary E. Porter of Earlimart, CA., sons, Everett F. Burke and Carroll E. Burke of Long Beach; brother, C.C. Benbow of Dodge City, KS.; sisters, Mrs. M.A. Stevens, and Mrs. Albert Lundquist of Wichita, KS.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:0 p.m. from Mottell’s Chapel Interment will be at Sunnyside Cemetery.
