COLEMAN S. RICE DECEMBER 13, 1857-MAY 17,1929)

COLEMAN S. RICE, SON OF WATKINS AND NANCY RICE, WAS BORN IN MORGAN COUNTY, ILLINOIS, ON DECEMBER 13, 1857. HE WAS ONE OF A FAMILY OF ELEVEN CHILDREN.

HE MOVED WITH HIS PARENTS TO A FARM IN IOWA IN 1858. THE GREATER PART OF HIS LIFE WAS SPENT ON THE FARM.

ON APRIL 6, 1879, HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE WITH NANCY F. ARMSTRONG. TO THIS UNION WERE BORN FIVE CHILDREN, ONE OF WHOM, FLORA L. RICE, DIED IN INFANCY.

THE FAMILY MOVED TO MOUNT AYR IN 1910, WHERE THE REMAINDER OF HIS LIFE WAS SPENT. HE HAS BEEN AN INVALID SINCE JUNE 5, 1920, AND BORE HIS LONG ILLNESS CHEERFULLY UNTIL THE END. HE WAS A GOOD NEIGHBOR AND A TRUE FRIEND, HAVING A CHEERFUL SMILE AND A WORD OF GREETING FOR EVERYONE.

HE PASSED AWAY MAY 17, 1929. THOSE WHO MOURN HIS LOSS ARE HIS WIFE, ONE SON, G.A. RICE, OF GUAPAW, OK., THREE DAUGHTERS, MARY AND BESSIE AT HOME AND WILMA LINDQUIST, OF NEWTON, IOWA; ONE BROTHER, J.W. RICE OF MOUNT AYR; SEVEN GRANDCHILDREN AND ONE GREAT GRANDCHILD, BESIDES A HOST OF RELATIVES AND FRIENDS.

HE HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF THE MODERN WOODMEN LODGE, CAMP NO. 3356, MOUNT AYR,IOWA, FOR TWENTY-NINE YEARS.

THE FUNERAL WAS HELD AT THE METHODIST CHURCH OF MOUNT AYR ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON, MAY 19, REV. MENOHER CONDUCTING. INTERMENT WAS MADE IN ROSE HILL CEMETERY.
