Anna Valina Frazey Whisler (May 30, 1857-May 23, 1929)
Anna Valina Frazey was born at Salina, Jefferson County, Iowa, May 30, 1857, and passed away at her home in Tingley, Iowa, May 23, 1929, aged 71 years, eleven months and 22 days.
She was united in marriage to Hiram Whisler on August 17, 1871 and to this union were born thirteen children, seven boys and six girls: Morval G. who preceded her in death in December 1922, Mrs. Gertrude Lehman of Afton, Harry of Moorcroft, WY., Percy F. of Washington, IA.; Mrs. Ida Elder of Pendleton, OR.; Mrs Nelle Anderson of Kirkman, IA.; Mrs. Harriet Harper of Des Moines, Iowa; Ross A. of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mrs. Della Mathiascheck of Des Moines, Iowa; Evertt E. of Emerson, Iowa; Bryce G. of Illiopolis, Il.; and Darl D. of Moorcroft, WY.
Besides her husband and family, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ida Chicken of Afton, Iowa, and Valista Teeter of Omaha, NE., 28 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Her home and children are her memorial of 58 years of married life. She was baptized in Methodist faith in childhood but never united with the church of this community and was devoted to her bible. In recent years she had excluded most all other reading. The bible presented by her husband on Christmas 1927 which she had read through three times. All of her sons were eligible to draft in the World War, but only one was over sea.
Funeral services were held in the M.E. Church at 2:30 Sunday, afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.L. Thomas. A very large congregation was present showing the high esteem in which this dear old lady was held by the community. Interment was made in the Afton Cemetery.
