JOHN ERWIN WILSON (NOVEMBER 27, 1885-JUNE 2, 1929)

JOHN ERWIN WILSON, SON OF MR. AND MRS. J.H. WILSON, WAS BORN NOVEMBER 27, 1885, IN ATCHESON COUNTY, MISSOURI, JUST SOUTH OF BLANCHARD, IOWA, AND PASSED AWAY JUNE 2, 1929, AT THE MISSOURI HOSPITAL IN ST. JOSEPH, MO., AGED FORTY-THREE YEARS, SIX MONTHS AND FIVE DAYS. HE HAD BEEN ILL FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS, BUT THE IMMEDIATE CAUSE OF DEATH WAS PNEUMONIA FOLLOWING AN OPERATION HE UNDERWENT ON MONDAY, MAY 27.

AT THE AGE OF FIVE YEARS HE CAME WITH HIS PARENTS TO MOUNT AYR, AND FOR TWELVE YEARS AFTER 1906 HE WAS CARRIER ON THE POST OFFICE RURAL ROUTE OUT OF THIS PLACE. HE HAS LIVED IN CLARINDA FOR OVER SEVEN YEARS.

HE MARRIED MARY GRAHAM OF HEPBURN, IOWA, ON AUGUST 4, 1907. TO THEM FOUR CHILDREN WERE BORN, THE ELDEST OF WHOM IS A GRADUATE FROM THE CLARINDA HIGH SCHOOL THIS YEAR.

HE UNITED WITH THE UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF TINGLEY WHEN HE WAS TWELVE YEARS OF AGE. AT HIS DEATH HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE SAME CHURCH IN CLARINDA. HIS FRIENDSHIPS WERE MANY IN BOTH MOUNT AYR AND CLARINDA. HIS CHRISTIAN CHARACTER WAS APPARENT IN HIS QUIET MANNER, HIS FAITHFUL ATTENDANCE AT CHURCH AND HIS DEVOTION TO FAMILY WORSHIP.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIDOW, MARY GRAHM WILSON, FOUR CHILDREN, GRAHAM, ELEANOR, IVOL AND LILA.  HIS PARENTS, MR. AND MRS. J.H. WILSON AND ONE SISTER, EDNA E. WILSON. THREE BROTHERS AND TWO SISTERS PRECEDED HIM IN DEATH.

MR. WILSON’S FATHER, J.W. WILSON, OF MOUNT AYR, WAS WITH HIM DURING HIS LAST ILLNESS AND WAS AT THE BEDSIDE WHEN THE END CAME.

THE BODY WAS BROUGHT TO MOUNT AYR MONDAY EVENING AND FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD TUESDAY AFTERNOON AT 2:30 O’CLOCK AT THE UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, CONDUCTED BY THE PASTOR, REV. C.S. GLADFELTER. INTERMENT WAS IN ROSE HILL CEMETERY.
