LYLE M. CAMPBELL (NOVEMBER 18, 1864-AUGUST 26, 1929)

LYLE M. CAMPBELL, BROTHER OF C.A. AND J.M. CAMPBELL OF MOUNT AYR, DIED MONDAY AFTERNOON OF LAST WEEK AT HIS HOME  IN OTTUMWA, IOWA, AFTER AN ILLNESS OF SEVERAL YEARS’ DURATION. MR. CAMPBELL WAS WELL KNOWN IN MOUNT AYR AND VICINITY. HE WAS BORN IN THIS COUNTY AND SINCE MOVING TO OTTUMWA IN THE LATE EIGHTIES HAD MADE OCCASIONAL VISITS TO THE OLD HOME, RENEWING ACQUAINTANCESHIPS WHICH HAVE ENDURED THROUGH THE YEARS. MR. AND MRS. C.A. CAMPBELL, MR. AND MRS. J.M. CAMPBELL AND GEORGE D. MOFFATT, OF THS CITY ATTENDED THE FUNERAL WHICH WAS HELD THURSDAY AFTERNOON AT THE HOME IN OTTUMWA.

THE FOLLOWING OBITUARY IS COPIED FROM THE OTTUMWA COURIER: LYLE M. CAMPBELL, 64 YEARS OLD, RETIRED RAILROAD ENGINEER AND A RESIDENT OF OTTUMWA SINCE 1888, DIED ABOUT 3 O’CLOCK MONDAY AFTERNOON AT HIS HOME, 322 NORTH JEFFERSON STREET. MR. CAMPBELL CAME TO OTTUMWA FROM MOUNT AYR, WHERE HE WAS BORN NOVEMBER 18, 1864. HE SERVED THE BURLINGTON RAILROAD UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT SEVERAL YEARS AGO.

MR. CAMPBELL WAS A PROMINENT MEMBER OF VARIOUS FRATERNAL ORGANIZATIONS IN THE CITY, INCLUDING OTTUMWA LODGE NO. 16, A.F. & A.M.; CLINTON CHAPTER NO, 9, OTTUMWA COUNCIL NO. 31, MALTA COMMANDRY NO. 31, KNIGHTS TEMPLAR, KAABA SHRINE OF DAVENPORT, I.O.O.F. NO. 9, K.O.T.M. AND BROTHERHOOD OF LOCOMOTIVE ENGINEERS.

HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, MRS. CORA CAMPBELL, TWO BROTHERS, J.M. CAMPBELL AND C.A. CAMPBELL, BOTH OF MOUNT AYR, AND TWO SISTERS, MRS. CLYDE HOWARD AND MRS. GERTRUDE BAYSINGER, BOTH OF SHATTUCK, OK.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD THURSDAY AFTERNOON AT 2 O’CLOCK FROM THE RESIDENCE IN CHARGE OF THE REV. DR. R. EMORY BEETHAM, PASTOR OF THE FIRST METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH. A KNIGHTS TEMPLAR ESCORT ACCOMPANIED THE BODY TO THE GRAVE IN OTTUMWA CEMETERY, WHERE MASONIC SERVICES WERE HELD.
