MRS. J.S. (SMITH, VAN TRUMP) MOON

MRS. J.S. MOON WAS BORN IN CHAUTAUQUA, NEW YORK, JUNE 11, 1858. WHEN A SMALL CHILD HER PARENTS, MR. AND MRS. ANDREW SMITH, MOVED FROM NEW YORK TO ROCKFORD, IOWA, AND TWO YEARS LATER TO PUTNAM COUNTY MISSOURI, WHERE SHE GREW TO WOMANHOOD. IN EARLY LIFE SHE WAS MARRIED TO HIRAM VAN TRUMP AND TO THEM WERE BORN TWO GIRLS, BERTHA AND MINNIE. MR VAN TRUMP DIED WHILE YET A YOUNG MAN. SOME YEARS LATER SHE MARRIED MR. V.R. DAVIS AND TO THIS UNION WAS BORN A DAUGHTER, GOLDIE AND A SON, GLENN. TWO DAUGHTERS, MRS MINNIE WILLIAMS AND MRS. GOLDIE LILLIE, PRECEDED HER IN DEATH. ON THE 13TH OF AUGUST, 1912 SHE MARRIED MR. J.S. MOON, WHO WITH HER DAUGHTER, MRS. BERTHA WILLAMS AND SON, GLENN DAVIS, TWO GRANDCHILDREN, PAULINE AND GLENN LILLIE, AND SEVERAL STEP-CHILDREN ARE LEFT TO MOURN THE LOSS OF A DEVOTED WIFE AND MOTHER. MRS. MOON LEAVES TWO SISTERS, MRS. JOHN WOODMAN, OF TULSA, OK., AND MRS. FLORA MADDOX, OF ROGERS, ARK., WHO ON ACCOUNT OF SICKNESS COULD NOT BE PRESENT AT THE FUNERAL. WHEN A YOUNG GIRL SHE CONVERTED AND UNITED WITH THE BAPTIST CHURCH AT ST. JOSEPH, MO. UPON MOVING TO KELLERTON IN 1890 SHE UNITED WITH THE METHODIST CHURCH, BEING A MEMBER OF THE AID SOCIETY AND MISSIONARY SOCIETY. HER INTEREST IN ALL THESE CONTINUED TO THE LAST, THOUGH NOT ALWAYS ABLE TO DO AS MUCH AS SHE WOULD LIKED TO DO. HER UNSELFISH DEEDS OF LOVE AND SELF-SACRIFICE, AND CHRISTIAN EXAMPLE WILL LIVE ON AND ON IN THE HEARTS OF THOSE WHO KNEW AND LOVED HER BEST. SHE WAS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE EASTERN STAR LODGE, NO. 478, KELLERTON, IOWA, HAVING SINCE HER MEMBERSHIP ALMOST CONTINUALLY HELD SOME OFFICE IN THE ORDER. THE FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD AT THE METHODIST CHURCH AT KELLERTON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6, AT TWO-THIRTY P.M., CONDUCTED BY THE PASTOR, REV. J.E. CLARK AND WAS IN CHARGE OF EASTERN STAR LODGE. THE BODY WAS LAID TO REST IN MAPLE ROW CEMETERY, AWAITING THE RESURRECTION MORN.
