CLARISSA AMANDA REYNOLDS BROWN (APRIL 15, 1849-NOV. 23, 1929)

CLARISSA AMANDA REYNOLDS WAS BORN IN WAYNE COUNTY INDIANA, APRIL 15, 1849 AND DEPARTED THIS LIFE NOVEMBER 23, 1929, AGED 80 YEARS, SEVEN MONTHS AND EIGHT DAYS. SHE WAS ONE OF A FAMILY OF THIRTEEN CHILDREN. SHE CAME WITH HER PARENTS WHILE QUITE YOUNG TO IOWA, LOCATING IN MUSCATINE COUNTY. IN SEPTEMBER, 1867, SHE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO BAZZLE G. BROWN. TO THIS UNION WAS BORN FIVE CHILDREN, NICOLAS OLIVER, ORPHA ELIZABETH, JOHN  MILTON, MINNIE MAY, AND ELMER ROY. NICOLAS OLIVER OR OLLIE AS HE WAS KNOWN TO HIS FRIENDS, PRECEDED HER IN DEATH SIX YEARS AGO. MINNIE MAY DIED IN INFANCY.

SHE GAVE WAY TO A NERVOUS BREAK DOWN IN JANUARY, 1924, AND HASN’T BEEN WELL SINCE. HER DEVOTED HUSBAND WAS CALLED HOME IN APRIL OF THE SAME YEAR. SINCE THAT TIME SHE HAS MADE HER HOME WITH HER DAUGHTER, MRS. GEORGE SMITH, WHO WITH THE HELP OF HER HUSBAND, HAS TRIED TO MAKE HER AS COMFORTABLE AS POSSIBLE.

IN HER EARLY WOMANHOOD SHE UNITED WITH THE CHURCH OF CHRIST, AND HAS EVER BEEN A LOYAL AND DEVOTED CHRISTIAN. SHE IS ONE OF THE CHARTER MEMBERS OF THE KELLERTON CONGREATION.
