JOHN EDWIN POLLEY

JOHN EDWIN POLLEY, SON OF WILLIAM AND LIZZIE POLLEY, WAS BORN JANUARY 3, 1912 IN TAYLOR COUNTY, NEAR BLOCKTON, IOWA, AND DEPARTED THIS LIFE DECEMBER 28, 1943, IN IOWA CITY AFTER FOURTEEN WEEKS ILLNESS OF A HEART ALIMENT. AT THE AGE OF THREE MONTHS HE WITH HIS PARENTS MOVED OT RINGGOLD COUNTY, RESIDING IN DELPHOS 26 YEARS.

HE BECAME A MEMBER OF THE DELPHOS BAPTIST CHURCH AT THE EARLY AGE OF 12 AND CONTINUED A MEMBER UNTIL THE TIME OF HIS PASSING.

HE GRADUATED FROM THE MALOY HIGH SCHOOL IN 1929 AND SPENT MOST OF HIS LIFE IN THE FARMING INDUSTRY WHICH HE THOROUGHLY ENJOYED.

EDWIN LIKED PEOPLE AND HIS FRIENDS WERE NUMBERED BY HIS ACQUAINTANCES. HIS FRIENDLY SMILE AND GOOD NATURE WON FRIENDS FOR HIM WHEREVER HE WENT. EVEN IN DAYS OF HIS ILLNESS HE HAD CHEERFUL WORDS FOR THOSE AROUND HIM. HIS INFLUENCE FOR GOOD AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH HIS SCHOOL LIFE AND AMONG HIS ASSOCIATES IN LATER YEARS WAS WORTHY OF EMULATION AND WILL LIVE ON IN THE MEMORY OF ALL WHO KNEW HIM.

HIS QUIET AND LITTLE KNOWN MINISTRIES OF NEIGHBORLY SERVICE AND HELPFULNESS FOUND MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXPRESSION.

HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY IS FATHER IN 1921. HE LEAVES TO MOURN HIS PASSING HIS MOTHER, WITH WHOM HE LIVED; ONE SISTER, MRS. CHARLES PRITCHARD OF DES MOINES; THREE BROTHERS, ORVILLE, CECIL AND MARTIN IN THE ARMED SERVICE; ONE NEPHEW AND NIECE, BESIDES A HOST OF RELATIVES AND FRIENDS.

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD FRIDAY, DECEMBER 31, AT THE RHOADES FUNERAL HOME IN MOUNT AYR, CONDUCTED BY THE REV. CLARENCE R. DOWELL.

THE MUSIC WAS FURNISHED BY MRS. ED GEIGER, MRS. B.F. SEATON AND MISS MARI SEATON, OF DELPHOS AND MRS. B. PEARL MAPEL OF DES MOINES.
