LARRY GRANT FREIHAGE

Larry Grant Freihage, son of Grant Alfred and Margaret Lorraine (Bevins) Freihage, was born April 16, 1943 at home north of Afton in Union County, IA.
Larry was united in marriage to Reta Fae Brown on March 29, 1964 in the Beaconsfield United Methodist Church. To this marriage, four children were born: Carmen, Tracy, Janell and Toni.
Larry was a hardworking and responsible man. In his earlier years, Larry hauled Sunday papers and was the night watchman for the town of Lorimor. He was in the logging business and worked in the oil fields of Kansas for a couple of years. Larry loved the land and being a farmer. He was a custom Harvestor for over 25 years and he was a strong supporter of Pro Harvest. Larry will be remembered as a simple man who would help anyone. Larry’s grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was proud of his grandkids and their achievements. Larry had interesting theories concerning Big Foot. He had a love for International Harvestor and Farmall. He restored several antique tractors including the 1945 H Farmall that his dad had bought brand new. Larry was a member of the Union Township Fire Department and the Ellston United Methodist Church.
Larry passed away February 12, 2020 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Robert Keith Foland; siblings, Helen (Paul) Husted, Robert “Bud” (Betty) Freihage and Dean Freihage; sisters-in-law, Joy and LaRetta; brothers-in-law, Carroll and Marvin.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Reta Freihage of Ellston, IA; four children, Carmen (Brian) Foland of Murray, IA, Tracy Freihage of Ellston, IA, Janell (Fred) Staats of Ellston, IA and Toni (Nate) Taylor of Grand River, IA; grandchildren, Eric (Melinda) Foland, Bruce (Heather) Foland, Dawn (Jimmy) Petrik, Andy (Blythe) Freihage, Luria (Michael) Staats and Grant Staats; great grandchildren, Trevor, Daniel, Rylee, Owen, Mason and Reece; sister-in-law, Sharon Freihage of Loveland, CO; other relatives and friends.
Services were at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, IA.
Officiating was Pastor Jim Morris and Pastor Kasey Dredge.
Special music was “Daddy’s Hands”, “I Wish Grandpas Never Died”  and “Go Rest High On That Mountain”.
Casketbearers were Eric Foland, Bruce Foland, Andy Freihage, Grant Staats, Trevor Henry and  Daniel Giles.
`Honorary casketbearers were Dawn Petrik and Luria Staats.
Burial was in the Tingley Cemetery in Tingley, IA.
Memorial fund is in Larry’s name to be decided.
