JUDY MAXINE DOOLITTLE

Judy Maxine (Reed) Doolittle was born on April 9, 1944 to Oscar Clifford and Loreen Bartrona (Scadden) Reed. She was born in Osceola, IA and was welcomed into the home by sister, Donna Lee. They were later joined by sister, Bonnie Kay, and brother, Clifford Eugene (Gene) Reed.
Judy attended many country schools throughout Ringgold and Decatur counties and later received her G.E.D. in 1978.
In 1959, Judy was united in marriage to Melvin Eugene Doolittle and to this union three daughters were born, Debra Maxine, Penni Meline and Teena Marie.
Judy lived most of her life in Kellerton, IA. She worked at Pioneer Cap Factory for 15 years and gained lifelong friends Beulah Hartman and Mary Beck. She worked at Miracle for nine years, worked as a C.N.A for three years, worked at Survivor for three years and as a teacher associate at Central Decatur Schools. Judy then went on to obtain her certificate in computer science at Southwestern Community College. She then began working for the City of Kellerton as the city clerk for 13 years and retired in 2016.
Judy cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, bird watching, traveling, sewing, camping and yard work. Judy thoroughly enjoyed going to church and singing praise as a firm believer in Christ. Judy loved to share her faith with all those who knew her.
Judy passed away on September 12, 2020 at her home. Preceding her in death are her husband, Melvin Doolittle; parents, Oscar and Loreen Reed and Clifford and Ethel Doolittle; sisters, Donna (Marion) Stark and Bonnie (Jackie) Ross; brother, Gene Reed; brother-in-law, Roy Doolittle; sister-in-law, Janice Doolittle; and close cousin, Gary Doolittle.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Debra (Rodney) Holmes of Kellerton, Penni Hewlett and Dana Hall of Iowa City and Teena (Jeff) Hash of Leon; son-in-law, Greg Hewlett of Grand River; grandchildren, Chad (Jamie) Holmes of Kellerton, Benjamin (Bessy) Hewlett of Osceola, Amber (Wes) Richards of Decatur, Travis (Cassie) Holmes of Kellerton and Aric (Correnia) Hewlett of Osceola; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Darrian and Kaidan Holmes, Wyatt, Aryanna, and Ahnyka Hewlett, Emma and Jeffrey Richards, Traivyn and Cortlynn Holmes, Byrin and Daria Hewlett; brothers-in-law, Larry (Beth) Doolittle and Steve Doolittle; sister-in-law, Cathy Reed; close cousin, Kay Doolittle, and many other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 17 at the Kellerton Community Center with Pastor Bart Shields officiating. Private burial preceded the service in the Maple Row Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chad Holmes, Benjamin Hewlett, Amber Richards, Travis Holmes, Aric Hewlett.
Honorary Pallbearers were Tristan Holmes, Darrian Holmes, Kaidan Holmes, Wyatt Hewlett, Aryanna Hewlett, Ahnyka Hewlett, Emma Richards, Jeffrey Richards, Traivyn Holmes, Cortlynn Holmes, Byrin Hewlett, Daria Hewlett.
Memorials are to the family to be determined. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is in charge of the arrangements.
