Wendell Perry Craft at age 84, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at the Harrison Health & Rehabilitation Center, in Harrison AR. Wendell was born January 29, 1936 in Black Hawk County, IA to Donald and Erna Craft.
When Wendell was four years old, Erna married Sherrill Stephens in Waterloo, IA, Sherrill became his father. In 1945, the family moved southeast of Afton, IA, where he attended a country school. They moved several times during his growing up years. In 1955, he graduated from Tingley High School in Tingley, IA. He entered the Army immediately after graduation and served until December 1964. He returned to Cedar Falls, IA where he met and married Carol Jensen Ball on November 27, 1970. To this union she brought her four sons, Terry, Steve, Richard and Harold Ball.
They moved to Des Moines, IA, where Wendell worked for Wyckoff Heating and Cooling. Later they moved to Pella, IA, where he continued to work in heating and air conditioning. Wendell enjoyed tinkering with his cars, riding motorcycle and was an all-around handyman. Wendell and Carol enjoyed many motorcycle trips to different states. Carol passed away on July 21, 2012, he missed her immensely. In December 2014, he moved into the Harrison Retirement Center in Arkansas to be close to his niece, Judi (Johnson) Fontana.
Wendell is survived by his two sisters, Muriel (Lloyd) Johnson of Mount Ayr, IA and Harla Jean Countryman of Surprise, AZ, and sister-in-law, Sheryl Craft, of Creston, IA. His four stepsons, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Craft, his parents, Sherrill and Erna Stephens, his brother, Ross Craft, and brother-in-law, Donald Countryman.
Wendell was cremated and interment will be later in the Columbaria Plaza Wall, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.
