Shirley Elaine McAlexander was born on April 16, 1951 to Kenneth and Virginia McAlexander and siblings Jerry, Larry and Deborah. She went to her Lord on October 28, 2020.
She loved her family, church, friends and horses. Camp Sunnyside was something she enjoyed attending every summer for 49 years. Riding or petting horses or just watching them was a pastime she enjoyed.
Shirley enjoyed all her cousins and nieces and nephews visiting her. She became a great babysitter in watching the kids. If they were doing something wrong, she would say “NO”. They always listened to her. You would see the young nieces and nephews sitting on her lap or pushing her chair. She was very patient with them and sometimes she went for quite some rides.
Religion was important to her also. She attended church and Sunday School all her life.
Shirley has taught all of us patience, tolerance and love for life.
She is survived by her parents, Kenneth and Virginia McAlexander, of Beaconsfield; brother, Larry (Cathleen) McAlexander of Prairie du Sac, WI; sister, Deborah (Dan) Van Horn, of Bloomfield; sister-in-law, Rosalie McAlexander, of Beaconsfield many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her brother, Jerry McAlexander; grandparents, Ora and Riley McAlexander, Leland and Donna Walters and Helen and Ray Meier. She will be missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the Beaconsfield Methodist Church, Mount Ayr Health Care Center and EveryStep Hospice.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the United Methodist Church in Beaconsfield, IA.
Officiants were Pastor June Nolte-Davis and Pastor Terry Roberts.
Songs were “Peace In The Valley” and “Jesus Loves Me”.
Musicians were Mary Ann Smith and Hynek Family.
Casketbearers were Jeff McAlexander, Chris Jackson, Tim McAlexander, Pat McAlexander, Andy McAlexander and Jennifer Stephan.
Honorary casketbearers Jon McAlexander, Jason McAlexander, Cameren Jackson, Dylan McAlexander, Jordan McAlexander, Collin McAlexander, Kennedy McAlexander, Caroline McAlexander, Courtney Jackson, Jenna Jackson, Jeran Jackson, Braxton McAlexander, Kenzington McAlexander, Greyson McAlexander, Kyle McAlexander, Hannah Stephan, Ella Stephan, Oliva Stephan, Sofia Stephan, Dacey McAlexander and Onyx McAlexander.
Burial was at the Ellston Cemetery in Ellston, IA.
