ANNA LUCILLE JOHNSON

Anna Lucille (Vanderpluym) Johnson was born in Ringgold County, IA on May 23, 1925 to Louis and Elizabeth (McManus) Vanderpluym. She joined two sisters, Veldeva and Martena and brother, Paul, and later younger sister, Frances.
Lucille attended country school Lincoln #2 through the eighth grade and then high school in Lenox, graduating in 1943.
She married Melvin Johnson and they made their home in Houston, TX. Later moving back to Iowa to build their retirement home near Lehigh, IA. Lucille loved to be outdoors and enjoyed her flowers and watching the wildlife in their yard. Lucille and Melvin had many other hobbies and loved refinishing antiques.
Melvin passed away in 1981 and Lucille continued to live in their home until she came to Mount Ayr in May of 2017 to be closer to her nieces and nephews.
Lucille passed away at the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr on January 19, 2021. Graveside service will be held later in the Calvary Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; sisters, Veldeva (Louie) Morris, Martena (Burl) Mobley and Francis Ricker; brother, Paul (Mary) Vanderpluym; niece, Beahnn Penn; nephews, Jim Morris and Ron Mobley. Left to cherish her memory are brother-in-law, Ted Ricker; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Lucille was cremated and her graveside service will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Creston later this spring. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is handling arrangements.
